Free from all names and concepts. Emaho! The Vajra body, speech, and mind of Samantabhadra, Through the way of no birth, Are well proclaimed in all births. At the very moment of birth, there is no birth, There is no duality of born and unborn. Contemplating the reality of non-existence, The object of contemplation is not contemplation. Thus, with existence and non-existence, Contemplation is without an object. Free from all real things, The aggregates, elements, and sense bases, and, The grasped and the grasper are completely abandoned, With the equality of no-self of phenomena, One's own mind is primordially unborn, It is the nature of emptiness. Because these real things are unborn, There is no dharma and no dharmata, Like the sky, without self, The way of enlightenment is stable. Since all phenomena are unreal, The characteristics of phenomena are completely abandoned. No-self arises universally from the Dharma, This way of enlightenment is stable. In the unborn phenomena, There is no essence, so there is no meditation. By uniting in the manner of the sky, It is well known in real things. The nature of all phenomena is clear light, Primordially pure like the sky. There is no enlightenment and no conceptualization, This way of enlightenment is stable. Manifest enlightenment, manifest Buddhahood, The suchness of myself, the Dharmadhatu, Words such as Thusness, All are its synonyms. Unmade and uncorrected by anyone, Uncorrupted and unchanging Thusness, Enlightenment is the nature of the sky, Therefore, it is said to be manifest enlightenment. When that very thing is realized, and seeing and meditation occur, For the sake of others, several times, Like a fish leaping out of the water, Through the order of self-blessing, By diligently erecting the body, one accomplishes the benefit of others, But still, the subtle two truths appear. Then the wisdom of union arises, There is no tolerance for any phenomena, There is no conceptualization of fear and dread, The nature of inseparable union, Where all duality is completely abandoned. Thus, by realizing everything, The conduct is also non-dual. The mantra practitioner acts like a lion, By training in the samadhi of union, One attains the Dharmakaya of non-learning union. Like a wish-fulfilling jewel, By the power of non-conceptual aspiration, The qualities such as the Rupakaya, Appear to the pure faces of those to be tamed. In the degenerate later times, The profound teachings and secret instructions are not shown.

To those, because they prioritize establishing reasons, they hold their own tenets as supreme. They are content with mere hidden meanings, and they disbelieve and refute the profound ultimate view. This causes both self and others to lose their purpose. If a drunken elephant is left to its own devices, the elephant keeper with a hook can control it. The drunken elephant can also refute others, and the elephant keeper with the hook can also be destroyed. That is not the king's treasure, as it causes both self and others to lose their purpose. Likewise, one who lacks the two, a wild elephant of reasoning left to its own devices, can also refute reasoning that possesses the two, and can also destroy the two itself. That is not the basis for secret mantras, as it causes both self and others to lose the meaning of secrecy. The lion's form of arrogance, with the words of a fox, refutes and destroys the view of emptiness, which is profound and not equal to anything. Even if a jewel is buried in filth, its light and qualities naturally appear. Even if the ultimate view-medicine is buried, it blazes and appears in the mind of the skilled. When arguing with inferior disciplinarians, establishing reasons and logic are the two main things. Because worldly fame is prioritized, even the words of the superiors are not measured. When viewing the ultimate of secret mantras, the mind and senses, direct perception, and subsequent inference are not the measure. Profound teachings and instructions are the measure. Whoever is defiled by arrogance, and despises the Dharma, refuting the true order, will fall into the hell of uninterrupted suffering. Whoever reviles the teacher, refutes the Great Vehicle, and mocks the union practices of the secret mantra tantras, will not attain accomplishment and will always be possessed by demons. Like iron being drawn to a lodestone, unwanted and unpleasant things, various unwanted things gather in this life, and in the next life, one will ultimately fall into the three lower realms. Without understanding the ultimate reality of things, being attached to external objects, with the negative conceptual thoughts of evil, the precious mind is defiled. Those who are attached to holding onto illusion, and who make the ultimate reality external, how can those with inferior views attain unsurpassed enlightenment? With the arrogance of nominal words, not relying on the teacher and lacking closeness, delighting in inferior views, not abandoning attachment to the three hidden views, not believing in the ultimate meaning, prioritizing reasoning.

Through wisdom. If someone refutes the profound ultimate meaning, This should not be explained to them. If someone attends and reveres the guru, And is not afraid of all being emptiness, and is patient, And has faith and devotion in the ultimate meaning, Then the guru's grace should be bestowed upon them. Based on the instructions of the noble Nāgārjuna, I have spoken this most secret teaching. May all conventional truths be purified, And may the realization of the ultimate meaning be dedicated to non-conceptual enlightenment. The complete instructions on the stages of manifest enlightenment with its result, composed by the master Āryadeva. This was translated and finalized by the Indian abbot Śraddhākaravarmā and the translator, the monk Rinchen Zangpo. The instructions on the stages of manifest enlightenment. Āryadeva.
