Through this reasoning, great yogis who realize the mind's complete emptiness turn towards liberation without regard for the fruits of virtuous and non-virtuous actions. As the Bhagavan said in the Vajracchedika Sutra: "Even Dharma should be abandoned, how much more so non-Dharma?" And as it is said in the great yoga tantra called Guhyasamaja: "To practice the path of the ten virtuous actions is to abandon wisdom." Thus, sentient beings, separated from virtuous friends, not realizing the true nature of their own minds, clinging to self, clinging to what belongs to self, contemplating nourishment and accumulation, and thus judging good and bad, have experienced suffering from beginningless time. As the Bhagavan said in the chapter on virtuous friends in the Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra: Subhuti asked: "Bhagavan, if all dharmas are empty and isolated, how can sentient beings have afflictions? How can they be purified? Bhagavan, emptiness is neither afflicted nor purified. Bhagavan, emptiness is neither afflicted nor purified. Bhagavan, emptiness or emptiness itself does not fully awaken to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Bhagavan, apart from emptiness and emptiness itself, there is no other dharma that fully awakens to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment, or is fully awakened, or will be fully awakened, or the dharma of fully awakening is not found. Bhagavan, how should the meaning of what has been said be understood? Bhagavan, please explain it to me. Sugata, please explain it to me." After asking this, the Bhagavan said to the venerable Subhuti: "Subhuti, what do you think? Have sentient beings been attached to self-grasping and what belongs to self-grasping for a long time?" Subhuti replied: "Bhagavan, it is so. Sugata, it is so, sentient beings are attached to self-grasping.

, and acts with attachment to "mine." The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what do you think? However, the attachment to "I" and the attachment to "mine" are emptiness. Subhuti replied: Blessed One, it is emptiness. Sugata, it is emptiness. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what do you think? Do beings revolve in samsara due to the attachment to "I" and the attachment to "mine"? Subhuti replied: Blessed One, it is just so. Sugata, it is just so, beings revolve in samsara due to the attachment to "I" and the attachment to "mine." The Blessed One said: Subhuti, in that case, beings also appear to be completely afflicted, and also appear to be completely purified. After saying this, similarly, in the Sutra of Complete Purification of All Karmic Obscurations, it is also said: Bhikshu, what do you think? Does that which is unborn arise? Or cease? Or become completely afflicted? Or become completely purified? He replied: Blessed One, it is not so. The Blessed One said: Bhikshu, what do you think? Do unborn dharmas cause beings to go to hell? Or to the realm of animals? Or to be born in the world of Yama? He replied: Blessed One, since unbornness itself does not exist, how could there be going to a bad destination? The Blessed One said: Bhikshu, since all dharmas are so luminous, foolish ordinary beings fixate on untrue dharmas, fixate on what is inverted, fixate on all dharmas like chaff and dregs, therefore beings will go to hell, the realm of animals, and the world of Yama. Bhikshu, is it so that when the mind is completely afflicted, beings become completely afflicted? When the mind is completely purified, do beings become purified? After saying this, similarly, in the Tathagatagarbha Sutra, it is also said: If one has no faith in all dharmas, but manifests joy and special liking, I do not say that such a being will go to a bad destination. Why is that? Because afflictions have no essence. All afflictions are separate from cause and

It arises from the assembly of causes and conditions, and ceases as soon as it arises. That which arises and ceases is destroyed by the afflictions. Thus it is said. The venerable Nagarjuna, in order to clarify this meaning, said: If all this is empty, and is of unborn nature, then how do happiness and suffering, etc., arise here, and how does one transmigrate through karma? As soon as one clings to a self, then defilements such as desire arise. Through investigation, one becomes subject to others, and children are tormented by suffering. All these are mind-only, and truly arise as illusions. Then, virtuous and non-virtuous actions, by which one is born in happy and unhappy realms. Thus it is said. Therefore, by this reasoning, all the Tathagatas, who are the embodiment of great compassion, seeing all sentient beings sunk in the depths of suffering, without refuge or protection, completely understand the nature of afflictions through the mode of conventional truth, thereby purifying the afflictions. And, having purified the conventional truth with the ultimate truth, they cause them to abide in the samadhi of true nature. The fifth chapter, which is the concise cutting of doubts concerning the differentiation of the limits of karma, is complete. Chapter Five. The Concise Cutting of Doubts Concerning the Differentiation of the Limits of Karma.
