Explanation of the Meaning of Chapter Eight Explanation of the Meaning of Chapter Eight ༄། །Those who know the basis of what is to be accomplished and clearly aim for the fruit should possess the limbs of the ritual in order to apply the practice to two kinds of activities. Therefore, this is a clear exposition of the mudras of prostration and the mudras of offering. If activities such as invitation, etc., and the various mantras and mudras that are common to them have already been shown, why is this specifically placed in one section? Because the common ritual of the two paths is the act of pleasing. And this depends on prostration and offering. Therefore, even though it is explained separately as an adjunct in the great root tantra, it is reasonable to list it separately here, that is, when gathering it into one aspect. That is also what the root tantra says: Among all the limbs of the ritual, the activities of prostration and offering are applicable at all times, and the diligent one applies them universally. By the power of pleasing the deity and the guru, one will be able to apply it to the desired activity. Therefore, this eighth chapter is commonly explained in the manner of a general limb, that is, it is not established separately. Among them, first, in order to briefly indicate, then further explain: Vajrasattva, the glorious deity, supreme among all kinds of varieties, all offerings are illusory. In order to please the wheel of the mandala, as well as the common and special deities such as one's own guru, from the illusion of the glorious Vajrasattva, all kinds of offerings that are supreme among all kinds are illusory, and the offering of prostration arises from the forms of body, speech, and mind, and the mudras of offering are transformed through the outer, inner, and secret paths, through songs and dances, thereby pleasing the mandala. That is also what the root tantra says: From the illusion of Vajra ༄། །Sattva, spread a large gathering of offerings, with various mudras, make all mandalas rejoice. Now, offering from the aspect of the mudra of prostration, first is the hand of the Vajrasattva mandala

The two, right and left, beautifully transform the fingers and little fingers. The glorious left hand in a graceful pose, the right hand makes the three-petaled banner mudra. In order to empower the binding of the mudra with strength and power, the hands are blessed beforehand. From the vajra fist arises the mudra, the left, right, and front, in three forms, transforming the lotus hand gesture three times. Then, the left hand is held in a fist, placed at the waist in the manner of holding a bell, acting in a graceful manner. The index finger and thumb of the right hand are joined, holding the vajra in the manner of the three-petaled banner, raising it and placing it at the heart. In what manner is service rendered? It is the supreme of offering and raising. One's self is the splendor of Vajrasattva, gazing with smiling eyes. This is the mudra of stirred thought. From the manner of arising inseparable from one's self and Vajrasattva, smiling arises from universal attachment, which is accompanied by service. Abiding in the manner of union with the vidya of one's own light, is raising. Having preceded such a mudra, one gazes with smiling eyes, and through the movement of thought, one prostrates to all the deities of the mandala of the glorious Vajrasattva. Furthermore, in the seventh chapter, it says: The assembly of illusory joyful vajra play, the mandala appearing to others is exceedingly beautiful. Etc., verses of prostration through the five aspects of body, speech, mind, qualities, and activity, and reciting the mantra: Om (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:ओ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:Om), Ah (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:Ah), Hum (藏文:ཧཱུཾ,梵文天城体:हूँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hum).
