The Third Division of Stages. The Third Division of Stages. ༄༅།། In order to show that the contemplation of the deity is preceded by the complete abandonment of the aggregates of ordinary beings, the division of stages of emptiness is explained. In "Yoga," etc., "The distinction of yoga!" refers to the distinction of the ritual of the deity's yoga. "How should the mantras be sought?" means: How should the mantras be sought? "How is wisdom obtained?" refers to the wisdom of the characteristics of attainments such as peace, and how should it be moistened in the mind? It should be connected to "One should listen to the Blessed One." In "Listen to the answer," etc., "truth" means not inverted. "The nature of the deity" refers to the nature of contemplating oneself as the deity. Or in order to make oneself a deity. "Listen" refers to the instruction given in order to listen to what follows. He spoke of that which should be heard. In "First," etc., "first" refers to the beginning of contemplating as a deity, that is, first contemplating the body as emptiness, and then contemplating as a deity after that. In "The defilement of the embodied should be washed away," "defilement" refers to the attachment to the grasper and the grasped, etc. It means that one should wash away these defilements with emptiness and then contemplate as a deity. In order to explain this, it is said, "First form is empty, etc." Because it is established and observed, it is form, that is, the five aggregates. "Empty" refers to the nature of form. The word "etc." means that one should understand the signless and the wishless. Because the nature, characteristics, and discriminations of form are all without self-nature, one should contemplate as the three doors of liberation. Not only should the five aggregates be purified by the three doors of liberation, but also in order to show that others should be included, it is said, "Thus eighteen are all mind." "Thus" refers to including. What is included? The six sense faculties of eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, and form, sound.

And, odors, tastes, tactile objects, and phenomena, these six objects, and the six consciousness aggregates that arise in dependence on them. These eighteen are also purified by the three doors of liberation as before, that is the meaning. The term "mind itself" means that if those are closely examined, what becomes the standard is only one's own mind. Even if things exist externally, their establishment depends solely on the mind, because it is clear by itself and merely experiences everything. Now, in order to show the distinctions of emptiness, the form aggregate and so forth are mentioned. The term "form" refers to white, yellow, long, short, and so on, those that become the objects of the eye consciousness, because they are visible. It is an aggregate because it holds its own characteristic; it is both form and an aggregate, therefore it is the form aggregate. The term "emptiness" refers to the nature that is free from grasping and being grasped, and that is like this, since it is an appearance of consciousness. It is empty of grasping and being grasped, which are different from consciousness, but it is not empty of the appearance of consciousness, like a moon in water. The moon in water is also empty of the nature of the moon, but the moon in water itself is not non-existent. If you ask, are the aggregates of form and so on different from appearance? No, because they cannot be analyzed. Like a moon in water, because it is free from the terms of truth and falsehood, it is spoken of in that way. The phrase "in that also sound is made" means that the sound aggregate is also empty of grasping and so on, that is the meaning. This should be applied to others in this way. The phrase "in that also form is made" means that because it is known and experienced, it is form, the nature of bliss, the object of the nature of the dharma realm. In order to show the emptiness of the sense faculties such as the eye after the objects, ༄། །The phrase "the nature of the eye is empty," and so on, means that if the eye and so on are examined, because they do not have the nature of grasping and so on, they are the nature of the three doors of liberation. If they do not exist, then how can the consciousnesses that arise in dependence on them exist? They are also empty.
