Ninth, Explanation of the Chapter on Purification. Ninth, Explanation of the Chapter on Purification. That which is called the Chapter on Purification, is called purification because it makes things pure. Because one fully understands the nature, things become pure and without fault. If one fully understands that, it bestows accomplishments upon the practitioner. The chapter that clarifies that purification and those purifications is the Chapter on Purification. Among them, the pervasive purification is suchness. The lesser Vajra Mother, and Gauri Mother, etc. Those spoken of, things, etc. The gods, means the great and supreme gods. So, what is purification, and how is it purified? To this, it is said here, the six faculties, etc. Essence itself means by nature. If everything is pure by nature, then making it pure is meaningless. To that, it is said, afflictions, etc. Ignorance that is not afflicted is by nature. The obscuration of knowledge and afflictions such as desire are the obscuration of afflictions. Being obscured by them means being made impure. Purification is for the sake of removing those adventitious impurities themselves. The meaning is to strive to remove the impurities, not to create an essence that was not there before. Thus, how are things spoken of as the nature of suchness and the nature of the gods? It is said, self-awareness, etc. Self-awareness has already been explained in the eighth chapter, and its nature is the meaning of self. Why is that? Purification by others, etc. Because it is said that purification from self-awareness is not distinguished by others, the obscurations together with habitual tendencies will not become completely pure. So, since those have become results, they should be attained by the path of meditating for a long time, and this is not from before. How is everything pure by nature? Therefore, it is said, objects, etc. Objects refer to the faculties, etc., which are perceived by their respective consciousnesses.

Because it is like that. Those are self-awareness, supreme bliss, which is the meaning of the ultimate truth. From where does it arise? From what is said, "the nature of purity," purity is also, by means of the nature of emptiness with two grasps, it is the nature of experiencing emptiness because it is the very realization. It is also the nature of the arising of mind, so it is the nature of purity. Its substance is itself, because of this reason. To this, experiencing all knowable things without difference as emptiness is common, but the bliss of self-awareness is considered to be the fruit. The part of its emptiness pervades, thus it is the nature of suchness. The part of experiencing emptiness is the wheel of yoginis. From the difference of what is to be focused on, the difference of experience is the difference of yoginis, which is the suchness of each object of focus. Then, for the yogis, the natures of the various appearances such as blue and yellow are different, how are those purified? Therefore it is said: "Form," and so on. Form, etc., the object, refers to the object of form, etc. "Other" means suchness, which means that it is inferior in nature to true realization. "The nature of purity" means the nature of complete purity. For what reason? Because "Why, the goer is the Buddha." In this way, all the body, speech, and mind secrets of the Tathagatas, in order, pervade all the movements of form, sound, and mind, thus all the secrets of the Tathagatas, as it is said in the Sutra of the Secrets of All Tathagatas. If all those are purified by following the secrets, then at that time there is not even a little impurity, thinking like this, he asked: "Wonderful Bhagavan," and so on. "For what reason" means in what way. "Smell is with the nose" is related to feeling. Experience is taste. "Things" refers to the word expressing the object, and it touches by combining with the remaining meaning. "To obtain" means to hold. If it is impure, then at that time one should rely on it.
