《A Mirror Clarifying the Meaning of the Scriptures》 Namo Vajrasattvaya Homage to Vajrasattva). 《A Mirror Clarifying the Meaning of the Scriptures》. Homage to the Lord Maitreya! Moreover, in the Perfection of Characteristics, from the cause of the profound secret mantra, in the place of karma, a person with the six elements, who has accumulated the two accumulations, if one practices the secret mantra, the best is in this life, the intermediate is in the dying bardo, and the worst is to become a Buddha in seven or sixteen lifetimes. The scriptures for these are also in order: The Root Tantra of the Kalachakra says: 'The Chandalas, bamboo workers, Khenpos, and those who commit the five inexpiable sins, after following the practice of mantra, will become Buddhas in this very life.' And 'This life will give the fruit of Buddhahood.' Etc. The Wisdom Thigle says: 'Even if one has great intelligence, with other vehicles, one will become a Buddha in three countless eons. If one believes in the vehicle of mantra, one will become enlightened in this very life.' And, it is also said in the lower tantra divisions: 'The Root Tantra of Manjushri says: One will achieve accomplishment in this life.' And, the Latter Tantra of the Manifest Enlightenment of Vairocana says: 'A Bodhisattva, through the door of secret mantra, practicing the practices of a Bodhisattva, will become manifestly and completely enlightened into unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in this very life.' And, the Vajra Peak says: 'Born in countless eons, the supreme perfection of the earth, because of obtaining the supreme secret, one will achieve the state of great joy. If a yogi is diligent, he will pass into Nirvana in this very life.' Etc. The intermediate is to become a Buddha in the dying bardo, the great masters think so, and their scriptures are: Second, the Great Oral Instruction says: 'When my mind merges into the Dharmadhatu, it is clear and joyful, realizing like the sky.' Etc. 'If the three bodies are not achieved, then one becomes the chief of the Vidyadharas, and gradually becomes the Mahamudra.' And, The Four Seats says: 'When the time of death comes, without being afflicted by plagues, etc., it is the supreme practice of transference.' And its benefit is: 'If one raises up from the nine letters, it is called transference in the sutras. Killing a Brahmin every day, one can purify the five inexpiable sins.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These paths will be blocked. One will not be stained by sin, and the entity of existence will become prolonged.' In 'Essence of Wisdom,' it says, 'Or, as soon as this body is abandoned, the supreme wisdom body, even without diligence, can be accomplished. What need to mention if one possesses diligence?' Finally, the holy ones consider enlightenment in seven or sixteen lifetimes, and here are the sources for those views: Third, from 'Secret Treasury': 'If the empowerment is perfectly bestowed, empowerment will occur in birth after birth. By that, in seven lifetimes, even without meditation, Buddhahood will be attained.' Also, from 'Stainless Light': 'At the end of seven lifetimes, one will become diligent, and even without meditating on wisdom, one will realize it.' From 'Summit': 'In all births, the Vajra Holder will manifest diligence. At the end of sixteen lifetimes, peaceful Buddhahood will be attained.' And: 'Or, merely by seeing, sixteen lifetimes will pass beyond sorrow.' Some say: The meaning of attaining Buddhahood in this life is to attain Buddhahood from this life onwards, through the arising of the fire of repeated rebirths. In the commentary on 'Vajra Essence,' it says: 'Giving Buddhahood in this very life means achieving it through repeatedly taking human births, not through gods and demigods, etc.' If someone says that, it is not correct, because in some translations, the text is not exactly as it is. Does 'repeatedly' mean that in order to attain Buddhahood in this life, it is necessary to be a human being? Or is it because of repeated statements? It is also possible that the Tibetan version is incorrect. If the version is correct and the meaning is also like that, then it contradicts the sources that say 'in this life.' Even if Buddhahood is attained through rebirths, that is also the view of the Characteristic Vehicle. Why put this in the profound mantra? This evil view of arguing with the all-knowing one should be abandoned like poison. Wise people, it is also unreasonable to think that one attains Buddhahood by practicing life-sustaining vidyadhara, because it may be lower than attaining Buddhahood in the bardo, and attaining Buddhahood in seven and sixteen lifetimes. Moreover, the glorious Vajrapani said: 'Even one's own thoughts, in the time of the five degenerations, can cause practitioners with short lives and little diligence to be given Buddhahood in this life.'
