Collected Works of Dokpupa Sherab Gyaltsen JDol45 Profound Meaning, Commentary Profound Meaning, Commentary Profound Meaning, Commentary Homage to the Buddha, the Great Bodhisattva, the Great Wisdom Holder, Profound Meaning, Commentary. Those who are weary of samsara, relying on the special instructions of the venerable guru, when they meditate on non-conceptual yoga, even if they are accustomed to the path of arising luminous appearances such as the sun, moon, and lamps, they will not attain perfect Buddhahood, but will fall into the realm of heretics, shravakas, or pratyekabuddhas. As it says in the Lankavatara Sutra: 'Beings are always revolving, with a mind weary of existence, having gone to the path of peaceful quiescence, they strive in various yogas. Yogis strive diligently, seeing shapes like the sun and moon, or like light and lotuses, and seeing patterns in the sky like fire. These various signs lead to the path of heretics, and also cause one to fall into the realm of shravakas and pratyekabuddhas. Because there is no object to grasp, it is not that there are no antidotes, like the conduct of the noble ones, there is the reality of suchness.' Also, in the Dense Array Sutra: 'Pratyekabuddhas and the sons of the Buddhas, and shravakas with great miraculous powers, all of them, this yoga, in whatever arises, in the aggregates, abiding on a lotus seat, meditating in the center of it, constantly practicing yoga, separated from desire and pleasure, the senses and their objects, turning back from all of them, like an elephant with an iron hook, thus placing the mind in equipoise, showing the mundane and the supramundane, whatever is the virtue of the Tathagata? Separated from desire and joy, or proclaiming all dharmas, and especially the formless, and the samadhi of non-perception, infinite space, infinite consciousness, neither perception nor non-perception, the shapes of the sun and moon, like lotuses and light, and patterns in the sky like fire, those who enter yoga see clearly. Abandoning all these, abiding in the absence of appearance, when one becomes a yogi without signs, in non-conceptual non-attachment, one also sees billions of Buddhas, in the fields and from the fields in equipoise, they empower with their hands, empowering on the crown of the head, abiding on the Buddha ground, and various forms.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Through it, one will fully manifest, attain things in various ways, become omniscient, acquire all knowledge, and also gain power, supernormal abilities, and freedom. One will obtain dharanis and all samadhis, becoming the source of everything.' Therefore, if one thinks that during the practice of meditation by children, the various appearances of light, clinging to self and master, etc., as well as the reality of external objects and the reality of consciousness, and clinging to their characteristics, especially craving and clinging, one will be led into the path of non-Buddhists and may fall into the paths of Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. As the *Lankavatara Sutra* says: 'Mahamati, if a yogi clings to the realms of such characteristics, clinging to existence or non-existence, then he will cling to self, nourishment, purusha, and pudgala.' It also says: 'Mahamati, what is the meditation practiced by children? It is when the yogis of Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas first focus on the selflessness of the person, and the characteristics of the self-nature and common nature of things, such as forms, skeletons, impermanence, suffering, and impurity, and observe, saying: 'This is such a characteristic, not another.' From the beginning to the gradual cessation of consciousness, this is the meditation practiced by children.' 'Mahamati, what is the meditation of discriminating meaning? It is when the selflessness of the person, and the characteristics of self-nature and common nature, and the self and other of external non-Buddhists, are all regarded as non-existent, thereby discriminating the order of the meaning of the characteristics of the selflessness of dharmas, this is the meditation of discriminating meaning.' 'Mahamati, what is the meditation that focuses on Suchness? It is when, through the selflessness of what is conceptualized, one abides in the discrimination as it is, so that discrimination does not arise, therefore it is called focusing on Suchness.' 'Mahamati, what is the Tathagata meditation? It is when the Tathagata enters the state of the Tathagata, abides in the wisdom of each of the noble ones, and the bliss of the three self-natures, thereby performing inconceivable benefits for sentient beings, therefore it is called the Tathagata meditation.' To this, someone might say: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
