I beseech the precious Guru, the Lord of all lineages, to be present as a witness to the fulfillment of broken vows. Although I have entered the gate of the Unexcelled Vehicle, I confess and repent for the broken vows of the three vows. I have not learned the three trainings of the vows of aspiration and engagement, nor have I held the vajra and bell, the emblems of the Guru, nor have I given the four kinds of generosity, nor have I upheld the three vehicles, nor have I maintained or abandoned the stages of activity. I confess the broken common vows. Killing, taking what is not given, engaging in sexual misconduct, and relying on meat and alcohol, as it is said, I have not carried out as they are, nor have I understood how to take and abandon them. In particular, I confess the broken vows of the five families. I have reviled the Guru, transgressed the words of the Sugata, been hostile to my Dharma brothers and sisters, abandoned love, renounced the mind of enlightenment, reviled philosophical tenets, divulged secrets, and disdained the aggregates. I have doubted the pure and killed hundreds of thousands of beings. I confess. I have measured the profound meaning with my intellect, and I have made faithful minds weary. I have abandoned the substances of the occasion and reviled women. I confess the fourteen root downfalls, both general and specific, and the transgressions of the twenty-five disciplines, etc. I have relied on an immature consort, and I have quarreled during the feast. I have taken nectar without qualification, and I have not shown the secret mantra to those who are qualified, and I have shown other teachings to those who are faithful. I have stayed among the Shravakas for seven days. I confess. I have practiced false yoga with pride, and I have taught the Dharma to those without faith, and the fifteen subtle downfalls, etc. I do not conceal the gross downfalls of the Unexcelled outer and inner vows. I repent and vow to purify them. Grant me siddhi! The body, speech, mind, and actions of Anu (from the nine categories of vows) are pure. I have not deceived the mind of the Sugata sentient beings. I confess that I have not properly guarded the four essential root vows. The twenty-eight common (body, speech, mind, and twenty-five limbs) and the four additional vows, the practice of the twenty-three disciplines (additional vows) of (non-existence, vulgarity, uniqueness, spontaneous accomplishment), and (the four vows of constant conduct) abandoning sleep and intoxication, and speaking with gestures and words, destroying laziness and abandoning demons (the five: conceptual thought, laziness, distraction, harsh words, anger and violence), destroying the four maras!
