The meaning of now. In general, the basis refers to the original, primordial basis, and the state of self-aware awareness as a temporary basis. These two are regarded as the great inseparability of basis and result, which needs to be realized, or the basis of accomplishing activities, and the basis of the method to realize it. As it is said in "Essence Accomplishment": "The basis of realm-awareness has two aspects, the basis of the method of realization and, it is said, the basis of accomplishing activities. At the time of the basis of the method of realization, this is said to be the accumulation of habitual patterns. The basis of abiding in the accomplishment of activities, is said to be the appearance of the nature of reality, primordial purity." Therefore, the latter (comment: the basis of the method of realization) also has a basis, that is, the way in which the self-nature appearance of the primordial pure, self-arisen awareness, Dharmakaya, Dharmadhatu, inseparable, is perfected in the body, and the way in which its body's appearance or basis appearance is perfected in the body. The former is regarded as the main one, as it is said in "Vast Expanse of Clarity": "All-pervading wisdom abides in this way, the great clear and empty wisdom is, from the beginning, abiding in three aspects. The essence, primordial pure wisdom, is free from all ignorance and conceptualization. The nature, spontaneously accomplished wisdom, is the very nature of the five clear and empty radiances. The compassion, all-encompassing wisdom, abides in the unobstructed appearance and emptiness." So it is said. Regarding the details of its first state, as it is said in the "Tantra of the Lamp of Primordial Wisdom": "Secret Lord, in the center of one's own heart, the Dharmakaya abides in the emptiness without characteristics." The latter is regarded as the main one, as it is said in "Essence Accomplishment": "Explaining the basis of the method of realization, the realm is in the lamp of the realm, awareness is clear like a thread." So it is said. Because of abiding in this way, there also arise two paths for practicing it, that is, Trekchö, which practices the basis of the method of realization, the Dharmakaya itself, as the path, and Tögal, which practices the basis of the method of realization, the Rupakaya, the light of awareness, as the path. Both of these are temporary bases, and the basis appearance is practiced as the path, therefore it is called the Yoga of Basis and Path or Dzogchen. Moreover, if the basis is not grasped by Trekchö, there will arise the danger of being led astray by the form realm, clinging to good characteristics, and if the path is protected by the swift Tögal, there will be the excellence of both essence and self-radiance being practiced, therefore it is also called the Great Perfection of Basis and Path. In the "Vast Liberation Sutra" it is also said: The basis is

Trekchö path, Tögal path, the fruition is the complete three bodies. Furthermore, considering the two types of minds: those who focus on objects and those who focus on their own awareness, it is said in that very text: "For those who focus on objects, the instruction of Trekchö is taught." And, "For those who focus on their own awareness, the instruction of Tögal will be taught." To explain this meaning briefly: In general, the nature of awareness, the naturally pure or primordial original ground, is the bardo between samsara and nirvana. Therefore, on that basis, neither liberation nor confusion is possible. The ground appearance is the path that makes it into liberation and confusion. When the general sound enters into particulars and abides in the temporary ground position, it is also called the ground path due to the difference of the two bodies. Moreover, when one arrives at the ground position of the first bardo, it is the empty drop of Trekchö. The second bardo, the path appearance of the spontaneously accomplished eight doors of the Sambhogakaya, the ground appearance, is emptied by practicing Tögal. Therefore, it is established as the ground path, which is very worthy of investigation. Nowadays, people do not understand what it means, so I have analyzed it slightly with my own ability. The fruition is complete on the ground, meaning that the body, wisdom, and activities are all complete on the ground, and they are manifested by being free from defilements, not newly created or compounded. Therefore, the fruition is complete from the beginning. At that time, the original ground becomes the suddenly purified Bodhi, or it also obtains the name of the ground of accomplished activity. The establishment of the Samaya Mudra.
