The Sutra of Noble Tara Saving from the Eight Fears. The Sutra of Noble Tara Saving from the Eight Fears. In Sanskrit: Aryatara Ashtaghoretasbi Sutra. In Tibetan: The Sutra of Noble Tara Saving from the Eight Fears. Homage to the Three Jewels! Homage to the Noble Tara! Homage to the Bhagavan Shakyamuni! Thus have I heard. Once, the Bhagavan was dwelling on the summit of Mount Sumeru, in the abode of the gods. At that time, among the assembly of attendants, the goddess Tara spoke thus: Having obtained this like a precious treasure of the heavens, Know the actions and the fruits of actions. Rely on the good and abandon the bad. Those who engage in sinful deeds, In the next world will fall downwards, Animals, foolish and mute, eating each other, Upward and downward, climbing, precipitous, toilsome paths, Fearful and terrifying, exceedingly hair-raising, Inconceivable suffering accompanied by caution. Pretas, hungry and thirsty, bodies unwell, Food and drink appear, but are guarded by others, Some, even if they eat, turn into fire and weapons, Inconceivable suffering of hunger and thirst. Those sentient beings born in hell, Without freedom, are led by the cruel Yama, Burned and boiled, pierced intensely by weapons, Unbearable suffering of heat and cold. Therefore, doing sinful deeds in this life, Is greatly cursing oneself. For many eons, tormented by intense suffering, There is no time for liberation, nor any chance for endurance. With clear mindfulness, know the fruits of actions, Unable to bear suffering, lamenting and blaming oneself, The loud cry of evil frightens others as well, Such and other inconceivable sufferings. Those who know the faults well, Should abandon the causes of the three lower realms, In any form of sin, whether subtle or gross, One should not engage through the doors of body, speech, and mind. Oneself will also be happy and benefit all beings, Abandon attachment, hatred, and delusion, stabilize the root of compassion, Diligently practice virtue with respect through the three doors, Strive for this very profound essence. Like a flower whose fruit is carried away by frost, Even if cultivated, sprouts will not grow, A person who has broken vows and is consumed by doubt, Very
