Thus I have heard: At one time, the Bhagavan (Blessed One) was dwelling in the great charnel ground, the Cool Grove. There, he was together with a retinue of close sons, Bodhisattvas, Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, gods, humans, asuras, and nagas. Then, the Bhagavan entered into the samadhi called Vajra Heart Essence. From his heart, rays of light shone forth, and those rays of light pervaded all the realms of the three-thousand great-thousand world system, freeing all sentient beings from all sickness, discomfort, and suffering, and then returned into the heart of the Bhagavan. Then, the great sage Nyesdor (Remover of Faults) arose, prostrated, and said to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, in this world, all sentient beings are suffering and distressed by sickness, poison, plague, enemies, demons, curses, spells, excessive rain, lack of rain, and causing crops to fail. How should we protect, save, and conceal them? The Bhagavan replied: Great sage Nyesdor, there is the Dharani Called Vajra Heart Essence Vajra Tongue Subduing, which protects, saves, and conceals all sentient beings. The ritual spoken by Maden Dä: Great sage, sweep the square earth mandala clean and smear it with the five essences of a cow. Smear it with fragrant sandalwood and Indian incense. Scatter loose flowers. Place a full vase. Light the butter lamp. Place a good torma. Plant an iron or red sandalwood stake. Place the vajra heart in the center. Place the Naga king Anantaka in front of it. Then, if you wish to make offerings, make the five offerings, such as flowers. If you wish to make offerings to the Nagas, use milk in a vessel, various Naga medicines, and various herbal medicines. If you wish to protect against disease and poison, use great fat, musk, blue thread, and peacock feathers. For the great black Naga, use great fat, musk, five-colored thread, and a red sandalwood stake. For all spirits, use a stake and mustard seeds.
