The Sutra of the Jataka of the Pig Woman The Sutra of the Jataka of the Pig Woman In Sanskrit: Sūkarika Avadāna Nāma Sūtra. In Tibetan: The Sutra of the Jataka of the Pig Woman. Homage to the Three Jewels! Thus have I heard. Once, the Blessed One was dwelling in Śrāvastī, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of Anāthapindika. Then, the Blessed One addressed the monks, saying: "Monks, five signs of impending death appear for a son of the gods. What are the five? Namely, the garments, which previously were not soiled, become soiled; the flower garlands, which previously did not wither, wither; sweat comes from both armpits; an unpleasant odor arises from the body; and the son of the gods does not find pleasure in his own seat. Monks, then a certain son of the gods, afflicted by the law of death, rolls around on the ground, beats his chest, and cries, uttering lamentations of sorrow, wailing: 'Alas! Slowly flowing! Alas! Pond! Alas! Small pond! Alas! Grove of various chariots! Alas! Grove of rough changes! Alas! Grove of joy! Alas! Mixed grove! Alas! Universal gathering! Alas! Detestable! Alas! Here, the happiness of the gods disappears, and in seven days from now, I will be reborn from here in the great city of Rajagriha, in the womb of a sow. Go take refuge in the Dharma, the best of those free from desire! Go take refuge in the Sangha, the best of assemblies!
