Afterward, the hunter skinned the lion and returned home, offering it (the lion's skin) to the king and requesting a reward. The king thought to himself: In texts and treatises, it is said that any animal whose fur is like gold must be a Bodhisattva, a great being. Why should I reward this hunter? If I reward him, then what difference is there between me and the killer? Thinking this, at that time the hunter requested a reward again, and the king gave him a little, and then said these words to the hunter: When you killed this lion, were there any strange or auspicious signs? The hunter replied: It spoke these eight syllables from its mouth, and the earth and sky shook, rain fell without clouds, and the gods showered down flowers. At that time, the king heard the hunter say this and was very unhappy. He generated faith and gathered all the ministers and wise, intelligent elders of the past, and analyzed the words spoken by the lion, but no one understood or comprehended them. In a secluded place, there was a sage named Shama, who was learned and wise. The king invited that sage and asked him, and the sage said this: The meaning of "Yala la" is that one who shaves his head and wears robes of changed color will quickly be liberated from birth and death. The meaning of "Vasha sa" is that one who shaves his head and wears robes of changed color is a sign of the noble ones and is close to Nirvana. 未做之後，將獅子的皮放入其中，做了佛塔。那時許多心懷善念的人們，全部命終之後都轉生到天界為天神。阿難陀，那時那刻，那獅子對身穿袈裟的人產生了善念，因此一萬個千萬劫中做了轉輪聖王，給予一切眾生安樂，增長了福德的事業，最終證得了圓滿正覺。那時那刻，不要對那獅子的誓願堅定者作其他的想法，那就是現在的我。那時那刻，那國王對幼獅的皮做了供養，一萬個千萬劫中成為天和人中最殊勝的，做了所有的善事，那就是菩薩彌勒。那時那刻，那位仙人就是舍利子。獵人就是提婆達多。那時眾多的眷屬聽聞了世尊如此說，非常歡喜，這樣稟告道：我因為不了解聖者而生起了惡念，為了如來對我們的慈悲，不變成罪惡而懺悔。世尊大慈悲，開示了四諦之法，如同先前與何種因相符，就獲得何種果報，其中一些人證得了入流果，一些人證得了一來果，一些人證得了不還果，一些人證得了阿羅漢果。一些人發起了無上菩提心。世尊所說的，阿難陀和眾多四眾眷屬都非常歡喜，並隨喜讚歎。名為獅子誓願堅定品第四十九品完畢。 第四十九品，名為獅子誓願堅定品。

At that time, at that moment, that king, by making offerings to the skin of the young lion, became the most excellent among gods and humans for ten million kalpas, having done all good deeds, that is the Bodhisattva Maitreya. At that time, many of the retinue, having heard the Blessed One speak thus, rejoiced greatly and entreated thus: 'Because I did not understand the noble one, I generated evil thoughts. For the sake of the Tathagata's compassion towards us, I seek repentance so as not to become sinful.' The Blessed One, with great compassion, taught the Dharma of the Four Noble Truths, and just as the previous cause was in accordance with what, the result was obtained, and some attained the Stream-enterer, some attained the Once-returner, some attained the Non-returner, and some attained the Arhat. Some generated the mind of unsurpassed Bodhi. To what the Blessed One said, Ananda and the many fourfold retinues rejoiced exceedingly and rejoiced after.
