Once, the Blessed One was dwelling in the Bamboo Grove Monastery in the Kalandaka area of Rajagriha. At that time, in the country of Kosala, there was a householder named Damshinzir, who was wealthy, powerful, and of noble birth. Because he had no son, he made offerings to the abodes of all the gods, including gods and nagas, in order to obtain a son. That householder sincerely worshipped all the gods in order to obtain a son. Later, his wife became pregnant, and after the months were complete, she gave birth to a good son, handsome in appearance, rare in the world. So they summoned a soothsayer to examine the signs. The soothsayer, in accordance with the signs, named the boy Danbila. He was raised and grew up, and when the father of King Salgyal died, the king placed the boy in his father's position as king. Thus, when he was invested with his father's position as king, all the houses turned into the seven precious substances, and many treasuries were completely filled, and everything was available. At that time, the king's son, named Rya, was afflicted with a feverish disease. The doctor examined him and said that he would recover if his body was anointed with sandalwood from Gorshisha. So the king issued a decree to the people of the country, saying: "Whoever has sandalwood from Gorshisha, offer it to the king, and I will give a reward of a thousand gold coins." Thus he proclaimed everywhere, but no one had any. At that time, one person said to the king: "In the country of Kosala, there is plenty in the house of the householder Danbila." Upon hearing this, the king himself rode in a horse-drawn carriage and set out to ask for sandalwood. When he arrived at the householder's gate, the householder's gatekeepers said: "King Salgyal has arrived here, and is now outside."
