Please allow me to be ordained! The parents did not allow it because of their love for their son. The boy pleaded again and again, saying, "If my parents obstruct me, I would rather die than live in this hustle and bustle." Then, the boy's parents discussed it, saying, "In the past, the Blessed One also prophesied that he would be ordained. If we obstruct him now, he may lose his life. We should allow him." So they agreed, saying, "Son, we allow you to be ordained as you wish." Then, the boy was overjoyed and went to where the Blessed One was, prostrated at his feet with his head, and requested ordination. The Blessed One said, "Welcome!" and shaved his hair and beard, making him a monk. Then, the Blessed One extensively taught the Dharma of the Four Noble Truths, and his mind was liberated. All defilements were exhausted, and he became an Arhat. When the monks were traveling around for the benefit of sentient beings, if they were thirsty or tired, if they threw their alms bowl into the sky, it would automatically fill with honey, and everyone would share it. Then, Ananda reported to the Blessed One, saying, "What good deeds did this Honey Supreme monk do in the past, that he attained Arhatship not long after being ordained, and was able to obtain the Dharma as he wished?" The Blessed One told Ananda, "Ananda, do you remember when a Brahmin named Shinchi was begging for food in the past? At that time, you were preparing food and resting on the new grass. A monkey took the alms bowl from you, filled it with honey, and offered it to me. The monkey happily jumped and danced, and as a result, fell into a cliff and ended his life. Do you remember?" Ananda replied, "I remember." The Blessed One said, "Ananda, the monkey who offered honey at that time is this Honey Supreme monk. Because he saw the Buddha Blessed One and was filled with joy, he offered honey, so he was reborn as the son of a Brahmin, with a handsome appearance, and after being ordained, he exhausted all defilements." Then, Ananda knelt on his right knee and reported to the Blessed One, saying, "What evil deeds did this monk do, that he was reborn as a monkey?" The Blessed One said to Ananda:

The venerable Ānanda inquired: In the past, when the Buddha Kāśyapa appeared in the world, a newly ordained young monk saw a monk jumping over a field ridge and said, "You run so fast, you are like a monkey." When the monk heard this, he said to him, "Do you know me?" (The monk) said, "You are a monk of the Buddha Kāśyapa, why wouldn't I know you?" The monk said, "Do not mock me! I am not a monk in name only, I have already attained the four fruits of a monk." The young monk was frightened, his hair stood on end, he prostrated with five limbs on the ground, and repented and apologized. Because of this repentance and apology, he was not born in hell. Mocking an Arhat, one is always born as a monkey for five hundred lifetimes. He had also ordained before, and because he guarded the precepts, he met me, and like washing, all suffering was exhausted. Ānanda, at that time, that young monk is now Madhuśreṣṭha. At that time, Ānanda and many attendants heard the Buddha's words, and everyone said, "The actions of body, speech, and mind must be guarded!" This monk also became like this karmic result because he did not guard the karma of speech. The Blessed One told Ānanda: Ānanda, it is as you said. Then he explained the Four Noble Truths in detail, the actions of body, speech, and mind were completely purified, and free from all defilements of the mind, some attained the Stream-enterer fruit, some attained the Once-returner fruit, some attained the Non-returner fruit, and some attained the Arhat fruit. Some aroused the Bodhicitta of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Some abided in the stage of non-retrogression. After the Blessed One spoke, many attendants rejoiced and praised, and were very happy. The Fortieth Chapter, the Chapter of the Brahmin Śiṃśapa (ends). The Fortieth Chapter.
