Chapter Forty: The Brahmin Shintsi'er Chapter Forty: The Brahmin Shintsi'er Thus I have heard. Once, the Blessed One was in Shravasti, in the garden of Prince Jeta, in the grove of Anathapindika. At that time, in that country, there was a Brahmin named Shintsi'er, who was of noble lineage and wealthy, but had no son. He went to the six teachers and asked them, and the six teachers said that he had no signs of having a son. Then the Brahmin returned home, wearing dirty clothes, entered a room of sorrow, and was unhappy. He thought to himself: I have no son, and if I die, my house and property will be confiscated by the king. He sat there very unhappily. At that time, the wife of that Brahmin was friends with a Bhikkhuni. The Bhikkhuni came to the Brahmin's house and saw that the Brahmin was very unhappy and tormented by sorrow. She asked his wife: Why is your husband unhappy? The Brahmin's wife said: I have no son. I asked the six teachers, and they said that I have no signs of having a son, so he is unhappy and grieving. Then the Bhikkhuni said: The six teachers are not omniscient, how would they know the cause and effect of karma? The Tathagata dwells in the world, he understands everything, and has no obstacles to the past and future. Why not ask him if you will have a son or not? After the Bhikkhuni left, the Brahmin's wife told her husband these words. The Brahmin was very happy to hear this and understood the meaning. He immediately put on new clothes and went to where the Blessed One was. He went to the Buddha's feet, prostrated himself, and asked: Blessed One, do I have a son who can inherit my family and power? The Blessed One said: Brahmin, you will have a son, who will be blessed and will also be happy to become a monk when he grows up. The Brahmin heard the Blessed One say this and was very happy. He thought: If I have a son, even if he becomes a monk, it is good, I will not feel pain. Having said this, he addressed the Blessed One and the Bhikkhus.

The community of monks was invited to receive alms, and the Blessed One, without speaking, allowed them to go. The next day, when it was time for the sun to rise, the Buddha and the community of monks went together to the house of that Brahmin. They sat on the seats that had been laid out, and the Brahmin couple offered food with respect. After receiving the food, the Buddha and the community of monks returned together. In between them was a meadow, and there was a very clean spring of water. The Blessed One and the community of monks rested there, and each took water from the spring, washing their bowls and hands and feet. Then, a monkey came there and took the bowl from Ananda, but Ananda, fearing that it would break the bowl, did not give it. The Blessed One said to Ananda, "Give the bowl to the monkey." Then, Ananda gave the bowl to the monkey, and the monkey took honey from the tree, filled the bowl, and offered it to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said, "Remove the impurities from the honey." The monkey removed the corpses of insects and so on, and offered it. The Blessed One accepted the bowl of honey and said, "Mix the honey with water." After mixing it with water, it was offered to the Blessed One. The Blessed One accepted it and also distributed it to the community of monks, and they were all satisfied. At that time, the monkey saw these things and was very happy, jumping and dancing, and fell off a cliff and died. Immediately after death, he was reborn as the son of a Brahmin. The wife of that Brahmin became pregnant, and after the months were full, she gave birth to a beautiful and lovely boy. At the time of the first birth, all the containers in the house were filled with honey. The Brahmin couple were very happy and called a fortune-teller to look at the signs. The fortune-teller asked, "When this child was born, what signs or miracles occurred?" They said, "At the time of the first birth, all the containers were filled with honey." Therefore, the child was named Honey Supreme. After that, the child was raised and grew up,
