The Blessed One spoke to Prince Victorious: In the past, beyond countless, immeasurable, inconceivable eons, in this Jambudvipa, in a city called "ཌ", there was a mountain called Righteous Sage Arrived, where many Pratyekabuddhas had resided in the past. Even if a Buddha did not appear in the world, the Pratyekabuddhas resided there. Even if there were no Pratyekabuddhas on that mountain, there were sages with the five supernormal powers. At that time, there were two thousand sages residing there. Later, fortune-tellers prophesied that there would be no rain for twelve years. At that time, in that place, there was a wealthy householder named "Subduer" who went to visit and said to the householder: Do we, these ordained practitioners, these two thousand sages, have food and drink for twelve years? The householder said: We have it, please do not leave, venerable ones, please stay here. Later, another thousand sages came and said to the householder Subduer: We need food and drink for twelve years. The householder asked the storehouse keeper: Is there enough sustenance for these venerable ones for twelve years? The storehouse keeper replied: There is enough. Then, the householder appointed five hundred workers to prepare food for the two thousand sages and had them prepare alms. At that time, the workers, while preparing the alms, became tired after a long time and said: We are always suffering like this because of these beggars. At that time, the householder appointed a worker who was always responsible for watching the time and always responsible for greeting. The greeter had a dog, and that dog always followed behind the greeter. One day, the greeter forgot. The dog, at the time of the meal, went to the sages and barked loudly. The sages, hearing the dog bark, knew that it was time for the meal and went to receive alms.

The hermits said: 'They will not become meaningless, in time there will be rain and so on, go and do your work.' Later, not long after, all the kuva grew large, and were cut down and looked at, and whatever was sown, those things filled the inside of the kuva, and the householder was very happy, and the granaries were filled. The five hundred workers also saw these things, and felt regret, and confessed: 'We have slandered the noble one with evil words.' Each made a vow: 'We also hope to meet the noble one in the future and attain liberation.' These five hundred beggars, because they spoke evil words, were always beggars for five hundred lifetimes. Because they confessed and made a vow, they met me and reached the end of samsara. Prince, this should be understood. At that time, the wealthy householder Stumza was me.
