At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in Śrāvastī, in the Jeta Grove, the Garden of Anāthapiṇḍada. At that time, the king of that country was named King Prasenajit. To the south of there was a place called Golden Land, and the king was named Kapiṇa. The son of that king was named Great Kapiṇa. When that king's father passed away, the son succeeded to the throne as regent. He was naturally intelligent and upright in mind, brave and possessed of great power. He had an army of thirty-six thousand soldiers, and wherever that army went, it was like a great wind, and there was no enemy that could not be overcome. He did not submit to the king of the central region. Later, some merchants went to the Golden Land and presented four bolts of fine, soft cloth to the king. The king accepted them and asked the merchants where such fine goods came from. The merchants replied that they came from the central region. The king said, "What is the central region? What is the name of the central region?" The merchants replied, "The name of the central region is also called Rājagṛha, and it is also called Śrāvastī, and there are many other place names as well." The king said, "Why do those kings not pay homage to me and offer tribute?" The merchants replied, "Those kings also each hold their own kingdoms and manage the affairs of their countries, so they do not come here." The king thought, "If my power and blessing can subdue the entire world, why do these kings not pay homage to me and offer tribute? Now I will subdue them with my power and blessing." Then he said to the merchants, "Among the kings of the central region, which king is the greatest?" The merchants said, "The king of Śrāvastī is the greatest." Therefore, a messenger was sent. When you are sleeping and hear my name, you must sit up immediately. When you are sitting and hear it, you must stand up immediately. When you are eating and hear it, you must spit it out before you can swallow it. When you are bathing and hear it, you must not even have time to tie up your hair. When you are staying and hear it, you must run immediately. Now, within seven days, you must come here to meet me! If you do not do so, I will send troops to destroy your country. When King Ming Guang heard the messenger say this, he was very unhappy and afraid, so he went to the Blessed One and told him the matter in detail. The Blessed One said: "King, you should also say to the messenger, 'Among kings, I am not the greatest; there is a king greater than I am.'" King Ming Guang also followed the Buddha's instructions and told the messenger: "In the world, there is a miraculous king who lives not far from here. Go there and do as your king has said." After saying this, the messenger left the Jeta Grove. At that time, the Blessed One transformed himself into a Chakravartin King, and Mahamoggallana transformed into a great minister, possessing the seven treasures. The Jeta Grove was also transformed into jewels. Outside the grove were seven layers of jewel ponds, and between the ponds were forests of seven precious trees, with countless lotuses of various colors shining brightly. Inside the grove, in a palace made of various jewels, the king was transformed to appear very majestic. The messenger came to the transformed palace, and as soon as he saw the great king, he was very frightened, thinking: "My king's power and merit cannot compare to his, but I must still deliver the letter." So he handed over the letter. The transformed king took the letter and placed it under his feet, and said to the messenger: "I am a great king, ruling over the four continents. Why do you listen to that foolish king? Hurry back and say that I said this. Your messenger will return and hear my words."

Then, the Illusion King picked up the bow and drew it, and just by drawing the bowstring, the universe of the great thousand worlds shook and trembled. Then, he took an arrow and shot it, and as soon as it was shot, the arrow turned into five arrows, and countless rays of light emanated from the tip of each arrow, each ray of light being as large as a lotus chariot wheel, and on each lotus there was a wheel-turning king with seven treasures.
