The seventh chapter of the Vinaya, the first part. The seventh chapter of the Vinaya, the first part. The Vinaya is: Lame One, Pillar Top Elder, Blind One, Naked Kasyapa as the chief, Elephant Place and Sarnath, and the one who observes the deer's ascetic practices, Moon and non-human beings. The so-called "Lame One" is: When the Blessed One was residing in Shravasti, a householder there, due to circumstances, took a wife and enjoyed playing and rejoicing with her. Later, his wife became pregnant, and after nine or ten months, she gave birth to a son. The upper part of his body was well-formed, beautiful, and pleasing to look at, but the lower part of his body was incomplete. When he was born, everything in that house became prosperous. Merchants traveling by land, merchants traveling by water, and merchants with large ocean-going ships all returned successfully. The herds of cattle and buffalo also increased. All kinds of work also became prosperous. The householder thought, "This must be due to the power of this child, that all our affairs have become successful. My son, the Lame One, is truly a blessed one." Then, he held a grand celebration for the child's birth and discussed what name to give the child. Someone said, "This child is lame, so let's just call him Lame One." Then, the boy Lame One was raised and nurtured with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and the essence of butter. As he grew bigger, the householder's wealth increased and prospered. Then, he became famous everywhere, and people said, "Through his power, whatever work is undertaken is successful, this child is truly a blessed one." As soon as they heard this, many people living in Shravasti would go to see him from time to time, and whatever they did, they would do it in his name, and through that, they would become successful. Then, he became even more famous and well-known throughout Shravasti. Later, when he grew up, his father made a precious palanquin for him, and he would ride in it and go out. Then, he came to that house.

Thereupon he was sent to learn writing. He learned writing, arithmetic, speaking, manual calculation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, cloth examination, jewel examination, precious gem examination, spice examination, medicine examination, elephant examination, horse examination, and weapon examination. He became skilled in writing, proficient in reading, intelligent, clear in his actions, broad-minded, and proficient in the eight types of examination. Then, one day, he rode in a palanquin, attended by many people, and went to the garden. He saw many people, group after group, team after team, going to Jeta Grove. He was amazed and asked, "Where are these people going?" They replied, "We are going to see the Bhagavan (Blessed One)." The cripple asked, "What is this Bhagavan like?" They replied, "Near the snowy mountains, not far from the hermitage of the sage Kapila, a son of the Shakya clan was born. Some Brahmin fortune-tellers prophesied, 'If he remains at home, he will become a Chakravartin (wheel-turning king). If he shaves his hair and beard, wears dyed robes, and goes forth from home to homelessness with steadfast faith, he will become a Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha (perfectly enlightened Buddha), and will possess great fame.'" Having heard these words, he immediately desired to see the Bhagavan. So, attended by those people, he went to Jeta Grove. At that time, the Bhagavan was sitting amidst hundreds of retinues, teaching the Dharma. Then, that lame boy saw from afar the Buddha Bhagavan, his body adorned and radiant with the thirty-two major marks of a great being, like a burning flame, like a flame fueled by oil, like a lamp placed in a golden vessel, like a stupa adorned with various jewels. He saw the Buddha Bhagavan, intelligent, immaculate, and endowed with purity. Having seen him, he...

Great joy arose. The sentient being who was born from the cause of accumulating virtuous roots, the kind of happiness he felt when he first saw the Buddha, even if he had become accustomed to the mind of tranquility for twelve years, such happiness would not arise. Having seen him in that way, he got off the palanquin out of respect for the Buddha. He crawled on all fours and went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down in front of him to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One understood his thoughts, habits, faculties, wisdom, and nature, and taught him the Dharma that was in accordance with him. Then, that crawler, while sitting on that seat, destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the collection of destructibles with the vajra of wisdom, and directly realized the fruit of entering the stream. Having seen the truth, he thought: If my body had not become like this, I too could have renounced in the well-spoken Dharma and discipline. In order to cross the rivers and escape from the bonds, I should strive, practice, and make effort! Then, as soon as he generated this thought, the limbs of his body became upright. Then, he became even more delighted with the Blessed One. Having become delighted, he stood up from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, and bowed with his palms together in the direction of the Blessed One. He said this to the Blessed One: Venerable one, if I can renounce in the well-spoken Dharma and discipline, receive full ordination, and obtain the status of a monk, I would also like to practice pure conduct in the presence of the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One ordained him and gave him full ordination with the words, "Monk, come here." He also, through diligence, practice, and effort, abandoned all defilements and directly realized the state of an Arhat. That Arhat, having become free from the desire of the three realms, was equal to gold and dung, possessed a mind like the sky and the palm of his hand, became cool like sandalwood soaked in water, destroyed the shell of the egg with wisdom, possessed wisdom and.
