When I properly applied my mind, thinking, "This has been abandoned by me through direct knowledge," the eye arose. Knowledge, understanding, intelligence, and realization arose. Monks, regarding the truths I had never heard before, when I properly applied my mind, thinking, "This noble truth of the cessation of suffering has been directly experienced by me through direct knowledge," the eye arose. Knowledge, understanding, intelligence, and realization arose. Monks, regarding the truths I had never heard before, when I properly applied my mind, thinking, "This noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering has been cultivated by me through direct knowledge," the eye arose. Knowledge, understanding, intelligence, and realization arose. Monks, as long as the eye had not arisen, knowledge had not arisen, understanding had not arisen, intelligence had not arisen, and realization had not arisen in these four noble truths, with their three rounds and twelve aspects, I did not abide in the world with its gods, with its maras, with its brahmas, with its beings including ascetics and brahmins, and with its gods and humans, with a mind liberated, definitely arisen, unattached, completely liberated, and free from perversion. Monks, I did not know that I had awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment through direct realization. Monks, from the time when the eye arose, and knowledge, understanding, intelligence, and realization arose in these four noble truths, with their three rounds and twelve aspects, I abided in the world with its gods, with its maras, with its brahmas, with its beings including ascetics and brahmins, and with its gods and humans, with a mind liberated, definitely arisen, unattached, completely liberated, and free from perversion. Monks, from then on, I knew that I had awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment through direct realization. When this discourse on the Dharma was delivered, the venerable Kaundinya and eighty thousand deities developed the eye of the Dharma, free from dust and free from defilement. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Kaundinya: Kaundinya, have you understood all the Dharma?

Homage to the Bhagavan Sarvajit. Kaundinya, have you fully understood, have you fully understood? The Sugata is Sarvajit. Sarvajit. Because the venerable Kaundinya has fully understood the Dharma, therefore, the venerable one is designated as 'Fully Knowing.' The Yakshas of the earth proclaim, 'The venerable Kaundinya has fully understood the Dharma.' Friends, the Bhagavan, in Varanasi, in the Deer Park at Isipatana, has thrice recited the twelve aspects of the Dharma wheel, a Dharma wheel that is in accordance with the Dharma, and which has never been turned in the world by any ascetic or Brahmin, or god, or demon, or Brahma. For the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, with compassion for the world, for the sake of the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans, the ranks of the gods visibly increase, and the ranks of the Asuras completely diminish, they proclaim this sound. Having heard the sound, the Yakshas of the earth proclaim to the Yakshas who travel in the sky, and to the ranks of the Four Great Kings, and to the gods of the Thirty-Three. From the gods of the Strife-Free, the Joyful, the Delightful Transformation, and the Gods Who Control Others' Emanations, in that instant, that moment, that instant and moment, the sound is proclaimed up to the Brahma world. The gods of the Brahma ranks also proclaim, 'Friends, the Bhagavan, in Varanasi, in the Deer Park at Isipatana, has thrice recited the twelve aspects of the Dharma wheel, a Dharma wheel that is in accordance with the Dharma, and which has never been turned in the world by any ascetic or Brahmin, or god, or demon, or Brahma. For the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, with compassion for the world, for the sake of the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans, the ranks of the gods visibly increase, and the ranks of the Asuras completely diminish,' they proclaim this sound. The Bhagavan, in Varanasi, in the Deer Park at Isipatana, has thrice recited the twelve aspects of the Dharma wheel, a Dharma wheel that is in accordance with the Dharma. Therefore, this Dharma category is called the Turning of the Wheel of Dharma.
