The Noble Sutra of Auspicious Night The Noble Sutra of Auspicious Night In Sanskrit: Ārya bhadra katri nāma sūtra. In Tibetan: The Noble Sutra of Auspicious Night. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard: Once, the Blessed One was dwelling in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park, near Rajagriha. At that time, a certain monk was staying near the bank of the Chuta Pota River in Rajagriha. Then, a deity possessing excellent color, as night fell, went to where that monk was, and having arrived, illuminated the entire bank of the Chuta Pota River with a vast light. Then, he said to that monk: Monk, do you know the Sutra of Auspicious Night? He replied: Deity, I do not know the Sutra of Auspicious Night. Deity, do you know the Sutra of Auspicious Night or not? He replied: Monk, I also do not know the Sutra of Auspicious Night. Deity, then who knows the Sutra of Auspicious Night now? He replied: The Blessed One is dwelling in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park, in Rajagriha. Go to the Blessed One and ask, and as the Blessed One explains it to you, so hold it and strive diligently. Having said this, that deity disappeared. 也不知道（不知道神）。神啊，那么现在谁拥有吉祥夜的经藏？他这样回答道：在王舍城（Rājagṛha）的光明园林，迦兰陀鸟栖息的地方，世尊（Bhagavān）居住在那里。你去世尊那里请教，世尊如何为你预言，你就如实地受持并努力吧。说完，那位神就消失不见了。比丘，为了这件事，我将全部禀告世尊。世尊开示道：比丘，你认识那位神吗？那位比丘回答道：世尊，我不认识那位神。世尊开示道：那位天子是三十三天众神的首领，名叫旃檀。那位比丘禀告道：世尊，我想要听闻吉祥夜的经藏。世尊开示道：比丘，因此你要好好地听，牢记在心，我将为你讲述。比丘，如果具备三种法，那么比丘就被称为安住于吉祥夜的经藏。哪三种呢？即不追忆过去，不期待未来，以及不被现在生起的法所动摇，安住于法性之中。具备这三种法，那么比丘就被称为安住于吉祥夜的经藏。世尊如此开示道。 善逝（Sugata）如此宣说后，导师（Śāstā）又说了这些话：不对过去恋恋不舍，不对未来有所期待。过去已经止息，未来尚未到来。对于现在生起的法，仔细观察，不被分别念所动摇，通达这一切。谁知道明天就会死去呢？今天就要努力去做。死亡的主宰和他的大军，不是我的朋友。愿一切有情和一切众生，一切生物和所有一切，都获得安乐，愿一切都没有烦恼。愿一切都看到美好，愿一切都没有罪恶。如此安住并精进，日夜不懈怠，因此是吉祥夜的经藏。

Nor do I know the deity. O deity, who now possesses the sutra of the auspicious night? He replied thus: The Blessed One dwells in the Radiant Grove of the King's Abode, where the kalanda birds reside. Go to the Blessed One and ask him, and as the Blessed One prophesies to you, so hold it and strive. Having spoken thus, that deity vanished. O Blessed One, for that reason, I will fully report this matter to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: Bhikshu, do you know that deity? That bhikshu replied: O Blessed One, I do not know that deity. The Blessed One said: That son of the gods is the leader of the thirty-three gods, named Chandana. That bhikshu reported: O Blessed One, I wish to hear the sutra of the auspicious night. The Blessed One said: Bhikshu, therefore listen well and keep it in mind, and I will tell you. Bhikshu, if one possesses three qualities, then a bhikshu is said to abide in the sutra of the auspicious night. What three? Namely, not dwelling on the past, not hoping for the future, and not being robbed by the dharmas that arise in the present, but abiding in the nature of dharma. Possessing these three qualities, then a bhikshu is said to abide in the sutra of the auspicious night. Thus spoke the Blessed One. Having spoken thus, the Sugata, the Teacher spoke these words: Do not dwell on the past, do not hope for the future. The past has ceased, the future has not yet come. Whatever dharmas arise in the present, carefully observe them, not being robbed by discrimination, comprehending all of them. Who knows if one will die tomorrow? Strive to do it today. The lord of death and his great army are not my friends. May all sentient beings and all living beings, all creatures and all everything, attain only happiness, may all be without affliction. May all see goodness, may nothing become evil. Thus abiding and striving diligently, without laziness day and night, therefore it is the sutra of the auspicious night.
