Then, the Blessed One addressed the monks, saying: Monks, what is fifty years for the people of Jambudvipa is one day and night for the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings. Thirty of those days and nights are one month. Twelve months are one year. Five hundred of those years, calculated in this way, is the lifespan of the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings. Monks, those who guard, conceal, completely protect, do not transgress, declare what has been transgressed, and thoroughly declare the precepts, will, upon the disintegration of the body, be reborn in the happy realm of the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings. There, they will possess divine lifespan, divine color, divine power, divine bliss, and divine dominion, and will have mastery over divine forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile sensations, and will be endowed with divine attendants. Monks, what is five hundred years for the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings is one day and night for the great hell of Revival. Thirty of those days and nights are one month. Twelve months are one year. Five hundred of those years, calculated in this way, is the lifespan of the great hell of Revival. Monks, those who do not guard, do not conceal, do not completely protect the precepts, transgress those precepts, and do not declare or thoroughly declare what has been transgressed, will, upon the disintegration of the body, after death, be reborn in the great hell of Revival. There, they will experience feelings of intense suffering, roughness, heat, and unpleasantness.
