The Noble Eight Auspicious Ones, also known as the Great Vehicle Sutra. The Noble Eight Auspicious Ones, also known as the Great Vehicle Sutra. In Sanskrit: Ārya Maṃgala Aṣṭakaṃ nāma Mahāyāna Sūtra. In Tibetan: The Noble Eight Auspicious Ones, also known as the Great Vehicle Sutra. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard: At one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling in the wide Amra grove. Then, the Licchavi son, Raudra, went to where the Bhagavan was, and having arrived, bowed his head at the feet of the Bhagavan, and thus asked the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, where do the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones reside, those whose excellent former aspirations are fully complete? Bhagavan, if I hear their names, I will bow with my head, and by bowing with my head to them, fear or harm caused by humans or non-humans will not arise. Bhagavan, if I go to the royal palace, when speaking, no one will refute or suppress my words. If I hold their names, even in sleep, I will not dream bad dreams. If I enter a battlefield where weapons are engaged, weapons will not touch my body, and I will also be able to be liberated from it in peace. Bhagavan, please have the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One proclaim their names to us. After asking thus, the Bhagavan said to the Licchavi son, Raudra: Raudra, in the east there is a world called Renowned, where there is a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, named King of Lamps. Raudra, in the east there is a world called Without Sorrow, where there is a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, named Steadfast Power, Meaningful Accomplishment, Intent. Raudra, in the east there is a world called Possessing Joy, where there is a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, named Universal Thought, Vastly Renowned. Raudra, in the east

Having heard this teaching, they were satisfied, pleased, and delighted. They were overjoyed and felt content. They recited the names of the Tathagatas and offered eight thousand flowers made of the seven precious substances to the Bhagavan, and circumambulated him. They took hold of this Dharma discourse, the Eight Auspicious Recitations of the Tathagatas' Names, and departed from the presence of the Bhagavan. Then, Indra, the lord of the gods, gathered with his retinue in that very assembly. He prostrated to the Bhagavan and said to him: "Bhagavan, I too have taken up the practice of the Eight Auspicious Recitations of the Tathagatas' Names." The Bhagavan replied: "Kaushika, therefore, when you fight battles between gods and asuras, you should recite this Dharma discourse. When you recite it, you, the lord of the gods, will be victorious. Why is that? Because the recitation of the Tathagatas' Names is a recitation of bliss and fearlessness. The recitation of the names is a recitation without agitation. The recitation of the Tathagatas' Names is a recitation of truth. The recitation of the Tathagatas' Names is a recitation of complete liberation from all battles. The recitation of the Tathagatas' Names is a recitation that is unconquerable, a recitation of peace, a recitation without suffering, and a recitation of fearlessness." Then, in order to honor this Dharma discourse, Indra, the lord of the gods, offered celestial mandara flowers to the Bhagavan, bowed his head at the feet of the Bhagavan, circumambulated him three times, and with a joyful heart, a virtuous mind, a mind without defilement, a mind without agitation, and the Dharma of the recitation of the Tathagatas' Names.
