Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in Rajagriha, in the grove of Odma, the bird Kalandaka, together with a great Sangha of monks, two thousand five hundred monks, and also together with a great multitude of Bodhisattvas, great beings. Then, the Blessed One, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of retinues, facing them, taught the Dharma, proclaiming the Brahmacharya, good in the beginning, good in the middle, good in the end, with good meaning, good words, unmixed, completely perfect, completely pure, completely cleansed. At that time, the king of Magadha, the skilled craftsman, the one with a beautiful form, the essence of firmness, came from the great city of Rajagriha, with the great wealth of a king and the great power of a king, went to the grove of Odma, to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, circumambulated three times, and sat on one side.
