Twenty-first Chapter: The Chapter of Past Events. Twenty-first Chapter: The Chapter of Past Events. The Noble King of Samadhi Sutra, Volume Seven. Then, the Blessed One again spoke to the youth Moonbeam, saying: Youth, therefore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should not be deterred from all the roots of virtue, trainings, and qualities. One should not be involved in much commotion. One should completely abandon evil friends and rely on virtuous spiritual friends, be of a nature to inquire thoroughly, be diligent in seeking the Dharma universally, make the Dharma one's purpose, desire the Dharma, delight in the Dharma, uphold the Dharma universally, and engage in what accords with the Dharma and the ways of the Dharma. He should generate the perception of a teacher towards all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Also, towards the one from whom he hears this category of Dharma, he should generate the perception of a teacher with joy and respect. Youth, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva correctly takes up and abides in this category of Dharma, which does not deter from all roots of virtue, trainings, and qualities, then he will surely arise quickly from uninterrupted eloquence. He will have faith in the inconceivable Dharma of the Buddhas. He will surely realize the profound Dharma of the Buddhas. He will be like a light to dispel the darkness of dimness, doubt, and uncertainty in the world with its gods. Then, the Blessed One, in order to speak of this category of Dharma that surely reveals all roots of virtue, trainings, and qualities, thoroughly and completely revealed the continuum of past stories to the youth Moonbeam with verses of melodious sound: In the past, in this place called Jambudvipa, there appeared two excellent youths who were without negligence. Having renounced in the teachings of the Sugata, they lived in the dense forest like rhinoceroses. They possessed miraculous powers and had attained the four dhyanas. They were skilled and accomplished in poetry and treatises. They could discern the traces in the sky and also the earth. They could also travel unobstructed in the sky. In that cool, dense forest, they were filled with various pleasing flowers. The birds also...

In that gathering of many offerings, they spoke to each other extensively. The king chased after mountain deer, going back and forth. Having heard the sound, he came to that forest. The king, having seen those two Dharma speakers, developed great joy towards them. Having spoken words that were agreeable to them, they sat before the king. That king's army was vast and limitless, nearly sixty crore (six billion). Then, those Dharma speakers each said to the king: Listen, king of noble lineage. The appearance of a Buddha is extremely difficult to obtain, lord of the earth, please always be mindful. Life always goes and does not stay, it goes quickly like a river in the mountains. When afflicted by disease, sorrow, and old age, for you, there is no other refuge like the path of virtue. King's elephant, please uphold the Dharma, and also protect this teaching endowed with ten powers. In the time of decline, in a time of great terror, king's elephant, please abide on the side of the Dharma. Thus, at that time, those wise ones advised the ruler in various ways. The king, along with sixty crore soldiers, at that time generated the mind of enlightenment. At that time, the king's elephant, having heard the Dharma, it heard and spoke of virtuous Dharmas, felt pleased, content, and generated great joy, paid homage to their feet, and then departed. Many monks of that king, desiring gain, entered his house. Having seen those dissimilar behaviors, they said to him: King, you have no such rules. That teaching is also of the departed teacher, at that time it was the end of the year, in Jambudvipa (the southern continent), those who could become vessels were extremely few, those who were unrestrained were very many. Then, many monks became greedy and attached, desiring gain, having purposeful views. When the Sugata's teaching was completely ruined, that king was also transformed and driven. "Kill these two Dharma speakers! These people are heretics who speak of annihilationism, even if they practice for a long time, they will not show any Nirvana. Karma will also be destroyed, and maturation will be destroyed, these hypocrites say there are no aggregates. King, banish these people from the country, so that the Dharma can also remain here for a long time." Upon hearing those words, the king's
