Chapter Eight: The Chapter Called "The Conduct of a Young Child" Chapter Eight: The Chapter Called "The Conduct of a Young Child" Son of good family, what is the conduct of a young child? Son of good family, standing up, sitting down, coming, going, and being unable to speak are called the conduct of a young child. The Thus-Gone One is also like that. Being unable to stand up means that the Thus-Gone One does not stand up from the nature of all phenomena. Being unable to sit down means that the Thus-Gone One is not attached to all phenomena. Being unable to come means that the bodily conduct of the Thus-Gone One is unmoving. Being unable to go means that the Thus-Gone One has completely attained great nirvana. Being unable to speak means that although the Thus-Gone One teaches all beings the Dharma, in reality, there is no teacher. Why is that? Because whatever is taught is called conditioned Dharma. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, is unconditioned, therefore there is no teaching. Furthermore, not speaking is like a young child who does not clearly understand words, and although there is speech, in reality, there is no speech. The Thus-Gone One is also like that. What is called unclear speech is what the Thus-Gone Ones think and then speak. Although there is speech, beings do not understand it, so it is called not speaking. Furthermore, what is called a young child does not know words correctly, so a single name is not fixed for an object. Although a single name is not fixed for an object because words are not correctly understood, the knowledge of the object does not change on the other side that is not the cause. The Thus-Gone One is also like that. Because the types of all beings are various and different, the words do not agree. The Thus-Gone One teaches according to how it is by means of skillful means, and therefore also makes all beings understand. Furthermore, what is called a young child can only show large letters. The Thus-Gone One is also like that, showing large letters. For example, "Ba Hwa." In that, "Hwa" is conditioned. "Ba" is unconditioned, and that is called a young child. "Hwa" means "I am impermanent." "Ba" means permanent. The Thus-Gone One also teaches permanence. When beings hear it, we do not
