The Blessed One, the Tathagata, Shakyamuni, and the sacred Dharma, this category of the White Lotus Sutra, for the purpose of making offerings, clasped his hands together. Flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, garments, umbrellas, banners, divine streamers, and many victory banners were scattered everywhere in this Saha world. Pennants, garments, semodos, necklaces, jewels, and many kinds of precious gems were also scattered. All those scattered flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, Dharma robes, umbrellas, banners, divine streamers, victory banners, semodos, necklaces, jewels, and precious gems came to this Saha world. The Saha world, complete with flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, garments, umbrellas, banners, divine streamers, many kinds of victory banners, semodos, necklaces, jewels, and precious gems, was covered, and together with hundreds of thousands of billions of other world realms, it was covered and became one. Wherever those Tathagatas resided, the sky above all those hundreds of thousands of billions of world realms was completely covered by a great flower net. Then the Blessed One spoke to the Bodhisattvas, the great beings, such as those with extraordinary conduct: "Noble sons, the Tathagatas, the Arhats, the perfectly enlightened Buddhas, have inconceivable power. Noble sons, for the sake of entrusting this category of Dharma, I have taught many categories of benefits through various Dharma doors for many hundreds of thousands of billions of eons, but even if I were to explain the qualities of this category of Dharma, I would not reach the other shore of qualities. All transformations and all the great secrets of the Buddhas, and all the profound abodes of the Buddhas, I have explained in this Dharma discourse. Sons of good families, therefore, you too, after the Tathagata has completely passed into nirvana, should respectfully hold this Dharma discourse, proclaim it, write it down, read it, explain it extensively, practice it, and make offerings to it. Sons of good families, wherever this Dharma discourse is read, taught, extensively explained, written down, remembered, recited, chanted, or made into a scripture, whether it be in a monastery, a hermitage, a house, a dwelling, under a tree, in a building, a residence, or even sitting in a cave, that place should be made into a stupa for the sake of the Tathagata. Why is that? Because that place should be regarded as the essence of enlightenment of all the Tathagatas, and that place should be regarded as the place where all the Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly complete Buddhas, have manifestly awakened to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and in that place all the Tathagatas have extensively turned the wheel of Dharma, and that place should be regarded as the place where all the Tathagatas have completely passed into nirvana. Then, the Bhagavan at that time spoke these verses: For those who abide greatly in clairvoyance and wisdom, The Dharma that benefits the world is inconceivable. For the sake of all these embodied beings' supreme joy, The boundless eye extensively displayed miracles. Extensively scattering forth a thousand rays of light, The power of the tongue reached the Brahma world. For those who have entered the supreme enlightenment, those wondrous miracles were displayed. The Buddhas made the sound of the peacock's cry, and whatever sound was emitted from a single cymbal, however many worlds there are in the ten directions, all those world realms were made to hear it. So that they might rejoice in the future, after the Sugata has passed into nirvana, to hold the sutras, for them and other miracles, and the qualities were beneficial and compassion was shown. The praise of the Buddha's sons is: Even if one speaks for many millions of kalpas, their merits are boundless, like the sky in all directions. Whoever constantly upholds this sutra, their merits will become inconceivable. They will see the guide of the world, the one who has passed into nirvana, and me, and all these guides. They will also see all these bodhisattvas and the fourfold assembly. They have pleased me today. They have pleased the King of Buddhas, the one who has passed into nirvana, and all the other guides who dwell in the ten directions. Whoever upholds this sutra will see the Buddhas of the past, present, and future, and all those who dwell in the ten directions, and will offer them great reverence. Whoever upholds this true Dharma of the sutra will understand all the intentions of the heart of enlightenment, and will know the great secrets of the noble ones. They will quickly remember it. Whoever upholds this sacred sutra, their fearlessness will be infinite, like the wind that is unobstructed in any place. They will also know the Dharma, the meaning, and the definitive words. They will always know what the guides have thought and spoken, and the connections between the sutras. They will know the true meaning of the sutras of the guide who has passed into nirvana. They will become like the sun and moon, and they will be very bright and illuminating. They will walk on the earth and establish many bodhisattvas there. Therefore, any wise bodhisattva, having heard of such benefits, should uphold this sutra of my passing into nirvana, and they will undoubtedly become enlightened.
