Chapter Four: The Chapter on Realization. Chapter Four: The Chapter on Realization. Then, again, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Great Wisdom asked the Bhagavan: "Who is skilled in understanding the connecting characteristics of the sequence of cessation, so that I and other Bodhisattva Mahasattvas will not be confused about entering the gate of the bliss of cessation, and so that the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Tirthikas will not fall into confusion? Please, Bhagavan, explain to me the connecting characteristics of the sequence of cessation for all Bodhisattvas, Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas." The Bhagavan replied: "Great Wisdom, listen very carefully and keep it in mind, and I will explain it to you." The Bodhisattva Mahasattva Great Wisdom replied: "Very well, Bhagavan." Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Great Wisdom listened again to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan said to him: "Great Wisdom, starting from the sixth level, the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas enter into cessation. In the seventh level, in every instant, the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas enter into cessation by eliminating the characteristics of the self-nature of all things, but not the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. The Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas who enter into cessation fall into the characteristics of the apprehended and the apprehender, which are characterized by manifestation. Therefore, it is not permissible for them to attain the characteristics of non-differentiation and non-multiplicity of all dharmas. Therefore, in the seventh level, they enter into cessation in every instant. Because they do not comprehend the self-nature of good and non-good of all dharmas, they enter into cessation. Therefore, in the seventh level, there is no wise person who can enter into cessation, entering into cessation with a mind that is momentary. Great Wisdom, in the eighth level, the minds, intellects, and consciousnesses of the Bodhisattvas, Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas, as well as their discriminations and concepts, cease.

Transform! The first and sixth grounds are merely the mind, intellect, and consciousness of the three realms. There is no self or what belongs to self. They arise from one's own conceptualization and do not fall into the various characteristics of external objects, but are manifestly and truly seen. Otherwise, the very nature of the minds of children transforms into two things, the grasping and the grasped. Those who are tainted by the karmic imprints of evil deeds of elaboration from beginningless time do not understand because they do not comprehend. Great wisdom, the eighth ground is the nirvana of the Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas. Bodhisattvas do not completely pass into nirvana, but hold onto the bliss of the samadhi of the Buddhas through samadhi. If they do not hold on, then because the Buddha-ground is not completely filled, the deeds of sentient beings will also be interrupted, and the lineage of the Tathagatas will also be cut off. Therefore, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, also show that the greatness of the Buddha is inconceivable, so they do not completely pass into nirvana. Hearers and Solitary Buddhas will be robbed by the bliss of samadhi, so they will think of that as nirvana. Great wisdom, on the seventh ground, if Bodhisattvas, great beings, do not understand the characteristics of self and generality, and are not skilled in the order and connection of the grounds, they may fall into the views and paths of non-Buddhists. Thus, I have explained being skilled in familiarizing oneself with the characteristics of mind, intellect, and consciousness, being skilled in grasping at self and what belongs to self, the selflessness of phenomena and persons, as well as entering, returning, self-characteristics, and general characteristics, being skilled in correctly recognizing individual things without doubt, as well as attachment to the pleasure of the senses, following the order of the grounds, and distinguishing the aspects of enlightenment. Therefore, the establishment of the order of the grounds has been made, and for this great wisdom, there is no entering or returning. Otherwise, it is like this: the order and connection of the grounds are the three realms.
