Chapter Four: The Chapter on Abundance. Chapter Four: The Chapter on Abundance. Then, the Blessed One addressed the venerable Subhuti: "Subhuti, how many beings do you know in the realm of sentient beings who are possessed by manifest pride and communicate through knowledge? How many beings do you know in the realm of sentient beings who are without manifest pride and communicate through knowledge?" Subhuti replied: "Blessed One, I perceive that in the realm of sentient beings, those who communicate through knowledge without manifest pride are few. Blessed One, I perceive that in the realm of sentient beings, those who are possessed by manifest pride and communicate through knowledge are countless, innumerable, and inexpressible. Blessed One, once, I was in a large forest monastery, and there were also many monks residing in that large forest monastery near me. In the morning, the monks would come and meet each other, and communicate knowledge by demonstrating the realization of various aspects of the Dharma. Some would focus on the aggregates, some on the characteristics of the aggregates, some on the arising of the aggregates, some on the cessation of the aggregates, some on the stopping of the aggregates, and some on the manifestation of the stopping of the aggregates to communicate knowledge. Some focus on the aggregates, just as some focus on the sense bases. Some communicate knowledge by focusing on dependent origination. Some focus on food, some on the characteristics of food, some on the arising of food, some on the destruction of food, some on the cessation of food, and some on the manifestation of the cessation of food to communicate knowledge. Some focus on the truths, some on the nature of the truths, some on the complete understanding of the truths, some on the abandonment of the truths, some on the manifestation of the truths, and some on the cultivation of the truths to communicate knowledge. Some focus on the elements.

Focusing on the characteristic of realms, and focusing on the various realms themselves, and focusing on multiple realms, and focusing on the cessation of realms, and focusing on the manifestation of the cessation of realms, thereby making wisdom communicate. Some are, focusing on mindfulness, and focusing on the characteristic of mindfulness, and focusing on the unfavorable aspects and antidotes of mindfulness, and focusing on cultivating mindfulness, and focusing on the arising of unarisen mindfulness, and focusing on the abiding of arisen mindfulness, not forgetting, increasing, flourishing, and expanding, thereby making wisdom communicate. Some are, mindfulness and so on are as they are, some are right abandonments and so on, and miraculous feet and so on, and faculties and so on, and powers and so on, and limbs of enlightenment and so on, and some are the eightfold noble path focusing on, and focusing on the characteristic of the eightfold noble path, and focusing on the antidotes of the unfavorable aspects of the eightfold noble path, and focusing on cultivating the eightfold noble path, and focusing on the arising of unarisen eightfold noble path, and focusing on the abiding of arisen eightfold noble path, not forgetting, increasing, flourishing, and expanding, thereby making wisdom communicate, and so on, I have seen. Having seen, I also think this way, these venerable ones make wisdom communicate by showing the manifestation of various dharmas, like this, without knowing the ultimate true nature that everything is of one taste, these venerable ones are those with excessive pride, manifesting with excessive pride, and merely making wisdom communicate, I think this way. Blessed One, for what reason did the Blessed One say that the ultimate true nature is subtle, profound, difficult to realize, extremely difficult to realize, and everything is of one taste? How wonderful it is that the Blessed One has spoken so well, Blessed One, the ultimate true nature that everything is of one taste, is in this teaching that the Blessed One has taught, becoming a monk

Even sentient beings find it difficult to realize this, let alone those later non-Buddhists! The Blessed One said: Subhuti, it is so, it is so. I have realized all that is ultimate, of a single essence, subtle, extremely subtle, profound, extremely profound, difficult to realize, extremely difficult to realize, and having fully awakened, I have also declared, clarified, distinguished, established, and truly shown it. Why is that? Subhuti, because I have fully shown that the pure object of the aggregates is the ultimate. Subhuti, for the sense bases, dependent origination, foods, truths, realms, mindfulness, right abandonments, miraculous feet, faculties, powers, branches of enlightenment, and Subhuti, for the pure object of the eightfold noble path, that is the ultimate. The pure object of the aggregates is also completely single, and its nature is not different. Just as with the aggregates, from the sense bases to the eightfold noble path, the pure object is also completely single, and its nature is not different. Subhuti, therefore, you should understand that whatever is completely single in nature is the ultimate. Subhuti, furthermore, a monastic yogi, having thoroughly realized the suchness, the ultimate dharma, the selflessness of one aggregate, does not seek the suchness, the ultimate, the selflessness in the other aggregates, realms, sense bases, dependent origination, foods, truths, mindfulness, right abandonments, miraculous feet, merit, powers, branches of enlightenment, each individually, and the eightfold noble path each individually, but rather follows suchness.
