The Chapter on Manifestation through Meditation. Nothing exists, nothing is perceived, All things are said to arise naturally without substance. Enlightenment is not perceived as a sign, The dharmas related to enlightenment are likewise. Buddha is not perceived as a sign, Bodhisattvas cannot realize it through signs. Those who are unwise and cling to signs, Even though they generate the mind for the growth of enlightenment, They engage in signs and have a perverted field of activity, With poor intelligence, they do not practice the path of enlightenment. Completely abandoning signs, in the field of activity of the Buddhas, Those who practice are skilled in the teachings of the Buddhas. Likewise abandoning signs, both with and without signs, Emptiness and non-emptiness are likewise without object, Those wise ones practice the path of enlightenment, They attain the supreme, peaceful enlightenment. It is not the field of activity of all external opponents, That place is not traversed by the Hearers, The Solitary Realizers also do not go there, Possessing a mind of liberation, without defilements, without stains. Those who strive in this teaching of the Arhats, Likewise, those who have become protectors of the Solitary Realizers, The field of activity of the wise has no field of activity there, That state is engaging in signs, And meditating on partial emptiness, Those who speak of emptiness by saying "empty" with emptiness, And those who say that all dharmas have inherent existence cannot attain it. In the teachings of all the Buddhas, Those who are learning and non-learning, those who are learning among the learners, That wise one realizes enlightenment without realization, He rejoices as the Teacher has taught. Because the Buddha, the chief of bipeds, is empty, With whatever small merit we have obtained, May sentient beings fully awaken to supreme enlightenment, May the Buddha, who shows the unknowable, be accomplished. Then, the Bhagavan, at that time, knowing the superior intention of the eighty kotis of gods of the Paranirmitavasavartin gods, including the king of the gods, Indra, in order to generate the roots of virtue of those many beings, at that time, smiled. Then, The venerable Asvajit asked the Bhagavan in verses: Knowing the intention of the Paranirmitavasavartin gods, The chief of bipeds, you smile, If the Sage does not speak of the cause of the smile, I request the Victor to explain the cause of the smile, The Guide does not smile without a cause.

Mdzad ces. The Supreme Victorious Lineage spoke thus. The reason for smiling for the sake of the world's benefit. Please, Teacher, grant your word to dispel doubts. From the mouth of the Great Sage, knowing the smile. Great Sage, your retinue has doubts. Gautama, the victorious guide, to them. For the sake of the world's medicine, please prophesy the reason for the smile. These are the opposite of the cycle of existence. With a mind of cessation, palms joined in reverence. This retinue, with vast minds, has doubts. Please dispel the darkness, possessing meaningful fame. There is no doubt in the Sugata's teaching. Outwardly generating faith, greatly making offerings. Do not doubt, the mind will be liberated. The Victorious One well knows the doubts of beings. In the Sugata's teaching, these abide in bliss. Whoever, in the past, the self-born Victorious One has passed away. From that path, there is indeed no doubt. Therefore, please cut off the doubts of beings. Then, the Bhagavan, with the venerable Ashvajit, spoke again in verse: Relying on the power of the great assembly of beings. Whatever was spoken in verse at that time. The reason for the meaning of the smile has been asked. Your words are timely. Ashvajit asked the meaning of that question. It was for the benefit of this great assembly of beings. You asked this, may the great assembly of beings. Truly enter into supreme enlightenment. I know the thoughts of others' dominion. Ashvajit, this smile I have shown. From the path of the teaching of the Knower of the World. Those who seek meaning desire it thus. Whoever These beings are without characteristics. Like seeing water in reeds. Like the foolishness of children, like the actions of the wise. They follow, desiring enlightenment, and study. Those who wish to abandon the concept of characteristics. Always delight in the appearance of characteristics and decay. The concept of characteristics goes on a wrong path. Those without characteristics will attain supreme enlightenment. With thoughts of non-existence, they discriminate characteristics. How they discriminate is how they are bound. The wise see characteristics as emptiness. Those peaceful ones will obtain excellent fame. With a mindstream of unequal thoughts of characteristics. The unwise commit hundreds of sins. Suffering in all beings.

Do not think small. Thus, the unwise examine the characteristics. Those who perceive characteristics see the aggregates, the Buddhas, the Bodhi, and the Bodhisattvas. Thus, if you see the signless and see the teachings, you will obtain immeasurable and unsurpassed Bodhi. Attachment to characteristics increases afflictions. Absence of characteristics abandons all entanglements. From characteristics comes entanglement. That entanglement itself is signless. Those who think of attaining Bodhi, that very thought is an obstacle for the unwise. If the wise obtain various enjoyments, those very enjoyments will become signless. All dharmas are without inherent nature. All phenomena arise from discrimination and are empty. Absence of discrimination leads to absence of characteristics. That itself is Bodhi; the wise speak otherwise. Having heard what the Victorious One has said, in the fearless assembly, doubts are dispelled. Like holding a garland of champak flowers, the wise hold well the meaning of what the Thuba has said. These fearless hosts of gods have made supreme offerings to the unsurpassed. Having fully known the realms of the Victorious Ones and all dharmas, they will become all-knowing guides of beings. The Nineteenth Chapter, Prophecy of the Other-Controlled Emanation.
