Chapter Eleven: The Prophecy of the Yakshas Chapter Eleven: The Prophecy of the Yakshas The Holy Father and Son Meeting, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. Volume Five. Then, eighty billion yakshas, from the Asuras to the Gandharvas, saw their offerings and heard the prophecies, feeling satisfied, pleased, and delighted. They developed great joy and happiness, as well as inner peace, and developed great reverence for the wisdom of the Bhagavan. They also heard about entering the nature of reality, and thus developed a recognition of the Teacher. The Bhagavan also developed a recognition of inexhaustible wisdom. Recognizing the Bhagavan as having inexhaustible wisdom, they developed a desire for the teachings of the Buddha. Having developed a desire for the teachings of the Buddha, they strived to make offerings to the Bhagavan. They praised the Bhagavan with verses: The power of omniscience is infinite in every way, Like the ocean that cannot be measured by water containers. Therefore, incomparable benefactor of the world, Lion among men, I praise you in this way. Mount Meru might be measured with a scale, The vast sky might be measured. The Sugata, possessing supreme wisdom, his power of wisdom, Cannot be measured or estimated. The thoughts of all beings are understood, Beings who are tractable, intractable, and difficult to tame, The nature of their actions is fully known, Therefore, incomparable, everything is infinite in every way. What kind of realm they rely on, How their mind-streams arise, What they like, everything is known, Therefore, incomparable, everything is infinite in every way. The behavior of desire, and likewise the behavior of hatred, The behavior of people's ignorance is also known, The nature of jealousy is also known, Therefore, incomparable, everything is infinite in every way. Where these beings wander and roam, To that, wisdom constantly arises, Therefore, incomparable, everything is infinite in every way. The Sugata completely sees all beings, Where they wander in the path of ruin, Having completely declined from the power of loving-kindness, You completely see all of them. How long will beings live, and what kind of suffering

What sufferings do they touch, and what forms do their bodies possess? You, the guide, should carefully observe them. What kind of view does the lion among men have, and in what ways will they obtain suffering? Relying on what will they perform their actions? You, the guide, should carefully observe all of these. After they have renounced in the Victorious One's teachings, by what gate of liberation, and relying on what path, will they obtain what kind of peace? You should know. Which children, in the Sugata's teachings, having renounced and being wise in the world, will abandon the very subtle teachings? You, the guide, should carefully observe all of these. By despising the teachings that benefit the world, how long will they remain in the great hell, and what kind of suffering will they experience? You, the guide, should carefully observe all of these. Those who generate faith in the Victorious Ones, having renounced and upholding the Victorious One's teachings, and having thoroughly contemplated all dharmas as emptiness, thereby destroying all signs, having completely abandoned aspirations for all sentient beings, and having thoroughly contemplated this body as like an illusion, and having realized the aggregates as like a pile of rocks, you should carefully observe those with bodhicitta. Whatever merit there is from praising you, protector, and how you, the incomparable one, comprehend it, may I attain unsurpassed Buddhahood through it, and may all beings also obtain self-arisen wisdom. Then, the Bhagavan, having understood the superior intentions of those eighty kotis of yakshas, smiled. Then, the venerable Ashvajit asked the Bhagavan in verse: The lion among men makes this smile, the moon among men becomes self-arisen, if there is no cause, he does not smile, please explain the cause of that smile. Seeing the Teacher's face making this smile, the Bhagavan, this world is in doubt, please, protector, remove that doubt, this world will turn to a joyful mind. Today, who generates joy in the Victorious One, who truly understands the vast Dharma, whose mind will remain unmoving? Please, Victorious One, declare it to beings. Today, the retinue is full of great doubt
