Ninth, the Chapter on the Prophecy of the Vase. Ninth, the Chapter on the Prophecy of the Vase. Then, the asuras of eighteen billion vases, the garudas, the daughters of the nagas, and the nagas also saw the offerings of the Dharma. Having heard the prophecy, they were satisfied, pleased, and delighted, exceedingly happy and joyful, and feeling at ease, they were amazed. They thought: 'The Tathagata possesses great power of wisdom. The Blessed One does not consider it amazing even to receive such a vast offering. It is like the great ocean, which is vast and full, and does not become higher or more sacred because of anything. Similarly, the Blessed One has no doubts about all dharmas, and all qualities are completely perfect. Possessing vast omniscient wisdom, even if he receives such offerings, he does not become higher or lower, and does not consider it amazing. This is truly amazing!' Then, those eighteen billion vases, in order to offer to the Blessed One with their own offerings, manifested eighteen billion banners of the seven precious things, namely: banners of gold thread, banners of silver thread, banners of lapis lazuli (梵文:वैडूर्य,罗马转写:vaiḍūrya,字面意思:琉璃), banners of crystal, banners of red pearl, banners of coral, and banners of stone essence. On these precious banners, they also manifested various garlands of flowers, namely: on the banners of gold thread, they hung garlands of silver flowers; on the banners of silver thread, they hung garlands of gold flowers; on the banners of lapis lazuli, they hung garlands of crystal flowers; on the banners of crystal, they hung garlands of lapis lazuli flowers; on the banners of red pearl, they hung garlands of coral flowers; on the banners of coral, they hung garlands of red pearl flowers; and on the banners of stone essence, they hung garlands of crystal flowers. All of these were manifested to be splendid and beautiful, numbering eighteen billion.

And also manifested eighteen kotis. Those also from gold to stone core, on those chariots, manifested eight seven-jeweled parasol handles, with gold handles, with beryl handles, and with crystal handles. On those parasols, various kinds of precious flower lathis were manifested, all of which were gold flower lathis, silver flower lathis, beryl flower lathis, red pearl flower lathis, and dragon jewel flower lathis. And also manifested the images of red pearls, which served as the ties for those parasols and flower garlands. And also manifested the cymbals of the treasure vase music. Those chariots, one by one, those banners, one by one, followed. Then, those treasure vases rode on those seven-jeweled chariots, offering the Bhagavan with seven-jeweled parasols, banners, and flowers, and circumambulated the Bhagavan three times from the sky above. After circumambulating, they descended from those chariots, bowed their heads at the feet of the Bhagavan, sat on one side, and praised the Bhagavan with verses: Everywhere also fearless, possessing great power, victorious hero, great hero, neither humble nor arrogant, like the king of mountains, Mount Sumeru. Please accept these vast offerings! All sentient beings, names and forms, only names can be known, without attachment. Teacher, you have attained the peaceful samadhi, and the wise have no pride. Victorious One, you know sentient beings as illusions, their nature is empty, like happiness in a dream, like the moon in water, like hair in the sky, thus the Sugata views these sentient beings. Like the appearance of a Gandharva city, but that city does not exist in all ten directions. Moreover, that city is only a name, thus the Sugata views these sentient beings. All these offerings are like the daughter of a rock, chariots, parasols, and cymbals, flowers, victory banners, palms joined in reverence, rock

Thus, those remain as they are. By making this offering to the guide, may we also quickly become the supreme two-legged Buddha. May we sentient beings, like dreams, realize and teach like you, Victorious One. Seeing people afflicted by old age and death, may we also quickly attain enlightenment, the state without old age and death. May we teach beings whatever liberates upon hearing. May we, having become enlightened on the supreme path of enlightenment, teach those whose minds are lost. May the Able One, without obstruction, fully teach the dharmas, and teach beings the supreme nirvana. Then, the Bhagavan, understanding the superior intention of those potters, smiled. Then, the venerable Aśvajit addressed the Bhagavan in verse: Teacher, you do not smile without a reason, Leader, there is nothing marvelous to the wise in the world. If the Victorious One, wondrous and unchanging, smiles, Please kindly explain the reason for the smile, we wish to hear. Seeing the Victorious One smile from his face, These beings are seeking doubt and uncertainty. Please dispel the doubts of those who seek doubt, King of men, also speak of the cause of the smile. Who today has placed their faith in the Dharma? Who today has also seen the king of Dharma? Today, I make offerings praising the Buddha, Supreme among men, I wish to hear. Today, having known the suffering of compounded things, Who has destroyed the one mind that acts as the doer? Who abides unshaken at the true limit? Possessing a pure mind, I wish to hear. Who today has destroyed the maras along with their retinues? Able Teacher, who has pleased you today? Leader, who has realized the depths today? Doubt remains, what shall we hear until today? To hear the meaning of that smile, All beings stand with palms joined. Teacher, dispel the doubts of those who are uncertain, Two-legged supreme one, please also give a prophecy. Then, the Bhagavan again spoke in verse to the venerable Aśvajit: Aśvajit, you have asked well, Because you have fully inquired about the cause of the smile, you have also accomplished the benefit of beings. To show that meaning, Aśvajit, please listen. The excellent potters have made offerings to me, And they have also placed their faith in the peaceful Dharma. Without rare
