Twelfth Chapter: Abandoning Views. Twelfth Chapter: Abandoning Views. Then, the venerable Shariputra said to the Blessed One: "Venerable One, for what reason is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva called such, and why do I also have confidence?" The Blessed One replied: "Shariputra, for what reason is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva called such, you should have confidence!" Shariputra said: "Venerable One, in order to abandon the view of self, one teaches the Dharma to sentient beings; likewise, the view of sentient beings, the view of life, the view of person, the view of nourisher, the view of man, the view of power-born, the view of strong man, the view of doer, the view of causer, the view of beggar, the view of all-beggar, the view of feeler, the view of causer of feeling, the view of knower, the view of seer, the view of annihilation, the view of permanence, the view of existence, the view of non-existence, the view of aggregates, the view of elements, the view of sources, the view of truth, the view of dependent origination, the view of perfections, the view of the aspects of enlightenment, the view of powers and fearlessnesses, the view of unmixed Buddha-dharmas, the view of maturing sentient beings, the view of purifying Buddha-fields, the view of enlightenment, the view of Buddha, the view of Dharma, the view of Sangha, the view of turning the wheel of Dharma, the view of complete nirvana, in order to abandon these views, one teaches the Dharma to sentient beings in a non-objective manner, therefore a Bodhisattva is called a Mahasattva." Then, the venerable Subhuti said to the venerable Shariputra: "Venerable Shariputra, why does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva see in form? And in feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness? Even up to seeing in the unmixed Buddha-dharmas?" Shariputra said: "Venerable Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, due to being unskilled in means, in form

One generates views by means of objectifying and the manner of objectifying. Similarly, one generates views by means of objectifying feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, and the manner of objectifying. One generates views by means of objectifying up to the unmixed qualities of the Buddha and the manner of objectifying. Venerable Subhuti, therefore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva generates views towards form, and generates views up to the unmixed qualities of the Buddha. Thereupon, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, skillfully abandons those views, and teaches the Dharma by means of non-objectification. Then, Venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, for what reason is a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva so called? May I also declare it?" The Blessed One replied: "Subhuti, you may declare it." Subhuti said: "Blessed One, the mind of enlightenment is a mind without outflows, a mind without equal, a mind that is unequal and equal, a mind that is not common to all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, and there is no attachment to that mind. Therefore, one is called a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. For what reason is that? Thus, the mind of omniscience is without outflows and does not belong to any category. Because there is no attachment to the mind of omniscience, which is without outflows and does not belong to any category, therefore, one is counted among the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas." Then, Venerable Shariputra said to Venerable Subhuti: "Venerable Subhuti, what are those minds of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, unequal and equal, that are not common to all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas?" Subhuti said: "Venerable Shariputra, here, from the time a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva first generates the mind, he does not truly see the arising or ceasing of any dharma, nor decrease, nor increase, nor coming, nor going, nor defilement, nor purification.
