Chapter Twenty-Four. Chapter Twenty-Four. Then, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva Maitreya said to the Venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, whatever is the meritorious activity possessed by the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva's rejoicing, and the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva makes the meritorious activity common to all sentient beings, and dedicates it to the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment in a non-conceptual manner, and the meritorious activity possessed by rejoicing in all sentient beings, and the meritorious activity arising from the generosity of the Hearer Vehicle practitioners and the Solitary Buddha Vehicle practitioners, and the meritorious activity arising from ethics, and the meritorious activity arising from meditation, among those, the meritorious activity possessed by the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva's rejoicing, made common to all sentient beings, and dedicated to the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, this itself is called the best. It is called the most sacred. It is called the most important. It is called the most excellent. It is called the most outstanding. It is called the most abundant. It is called the unsurpassed. It is called the incomparable. It is called the unequaled. It is called the unequal and equal. The Twenty-Five Thousand Verse Perfection of Wisdom, Volume Thirty-Six. Why is that? Thus, the meritorious activity arising from the generosity of the Hearer and Solitary Buddha Vehicle practitioners, and the meritorious activity arising from ethics and the meritorious activity arising from meditation, are to abide closely for the sake of taming the self, for pacifying the self, and for completely liberating the self from suffering, that is, the four mindfulnesses and so on up to the eightfold noble path, and the four noble truths and the four meditations, and the four immeasurables and the four formless absorptions, and the doors of liberation of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, and the eight liberations and the nine successive abiding absorptions, and the four analytical knowledges and the six superknowledges, etc., are also for taming the self, for pacifying the self, and for completely

It is only for the sake of turning away from suffering that one draws near. The Bodhisattva, however, in order to tame all sentient beings, to pacify them, and to completely turn them away from suffering, makes the objects of merit, which are endowed with rejoicing, common to all sentient beings, and dedicates them in a non-objective manner to unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. Then, the venerable Subhuti spoke thus to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya: "Thus, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with respect to the countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable realms of the eastern direction, in each of those realms, the immeasurable and countless Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have passed into complete nirvana, and with respect to each of the southern, western, northern, northeastern, southeastern, southwestern, northwestern, lower, and upper directions, the countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable realms, in each of those realms, the immeasurable and countless Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have passed into complete nirvana, from the time of their first arising of the mind until their manifestation of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and until their complete passing into nirvana in the realm of nirvana without remainder, during the sacred Dharma, whatever roots of virtue are endowed with the six perfections, and whatever objects of merit arise from the giving of those who have truly entered the Hearer Vehicle, and whatever arises from morality, and whatever objects of merit arise from meditation, and the undefiled roots of virtue of those who are in training, and the undefiled roots of virtue of those who are beyond training, and the aggregates of morality of those Tathagatas, Arhats, perfect and complete Buddhas, and the aggregates of concentration, and the aggregates of wisdom, and the aggregates of liberation, and the aggregates of the knowledge and vision of liberation, and the intention to benefit and great compassion, and the countless and immeasurable Buddha-dharmas, and whatever Dharma has been taught by those Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and the fruit of learning and constantly entering into that Dharma that has been taught.
