Chapter Eight: The Means of the Six Perfections Chapter Eight: The Means of the Six Perfections Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Patience, from the moment of first generating the mind, he takes hold and cultivates patience with the intention of possessing all aspects of knowledge. For him, the mind of attachment will not become an obstacle, hatred will not become an obstacle, ignorance will not become an obstacle, latent tendencies will not become an obstacle, pervasive activity will not become an obstacle. Other non-virtuous dharmas that become obstacles to enlightenment, such as miserliness, or bad morality, or a disturbed mind, or a lazy mind, or a mind with little diligence, or a distracted mind, or a mind of perverse wisdom, or pride, or disdain, or great pride, or the pride of 'I', or the mind of a Hearer, or the mind of a Solitary Buddha, will also not become obstacles. Why is that? Subhuti, it is because he knows that all dharmas are empty of their own nature, and he sees that all dharmas are non-existent, unborn, incomplete, and unmanifest. If he enters into the dharma-nature of dharmas, he also enters into the nature of non-action, saying that all dharmas are without any power. Because he possesses such skillful means, the roots of virtue increase, and he practices the Perfection of Patience. As he practices the Perfection of Patience, he ripens sentient beings and purifies the Buddha-fields. Moreover, in order to completely protect all sentient beings and to ripen sentient beings, he practices the Perfection of Patience. Apart from that, he does not desire such a result as the fruit of patience, which is to be fully enjoyed in samsara. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Diligence, from the moment of first generating the mind, he takes hold and initiates diligence with the intention of possessing all aspects of knowledge. For him, the mind of attachment will not become an obstacle, hatred will not become an obstacle,

Ma! My pride, or (Tibetan: ང་རྒྱལ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: mana, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: māna, Chinese literal meaning: arrogance) lala ma? He practices the Paramita of Dhyana, and completely ripens sentient beings, and purifies the Buddha-field. Otherwise, in order to completely protect all sentient beings and to completely ripen sentient beings, apart from practicing the Paramita of Dhyana, there is no desire for the fruit of Dhyana, that is, the fruit of completely enjoying in Samsara. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Prajnaparamita, from the moment of first generating the mind, he cultivates wisdom with the intention corresponding to all-knowingness, then the mind of desire will not become an obstacle, hatred will not become an obstacle, ignorance will not become an obstacle, latent tendencies will not become an obstacle, manifest actions will not become an obstacle.
