Section of Discourses. Section of Discourses. King, listen to what I did to benefit sentient beings in order to seek the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. King, in the past, in a dense forest, the Bodhisattva, residing in an uncertain body, became a parrot that spoke human language. At that time, in the country of Varanasi, a king named Brahmadatta ruled the kingdom in a way that was not in accordance with the Dharma. Then, that parrot hid every day on top of the bushes of the king's palace and said, 'Great King, do not rule the kingdom in a way that is not in accordance with the Dharma!' The king became annoyed with it. Then, it firmly established the king in the five places of asceticism and engaged in ruling the kingdom according to the Dharma. He gave fearlessness to all the deer and birds. Great King, do you think that the one who became a parrot at that time was someone else? You should not see it that way. However, I myself was the parrot who spoke human language at that time. Great King, if you think that I will attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment by benefiting sentient beings, you should not see it that way. However, my benefiting sentient beings is only the cause, condition, and collection for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Great King, listen to what I did to generate loving-kindness towards killing in order to seek unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Great King, in the past, in a place called Kashi, there was a king named Brahmadatta who ruled the kingdom. He was always at odds with the king of Ruhitaka because he only wanted the land of Ruhitaka. The king of Ruhitaka was superior in power, but because he did not want that land, he always remained with a mind of loving-kindness, a mind of benefit, and affection towards him. However, because he was enslaved by existence, he only wanted that land, so he armed the four divisions of the army and set out to wage war with the king of Ruhitaka. Then, the king of Ruhitaka heard about it,

Now, having arranged one-third of the road, removing all the stones, gravel, and tiles from that city, erecting victory banners and flags, hanging many silk ribbons, displaying fragrant scents, sprinkling sandalwood water, decorating with various kinds of flowers to make it pleasing to the eye, preparing clean and abundant food, and sending messengers to invite the people and ministers of the city, hundreds and thousands of people felt satisfied upon hearing the news. King Pure Giving, freed from all entanglements, then thought: I should do something that would make King Body Excellent each feel very happy, and then return. Thinking this, he went to King Body Excellent. King Body Excellent greeted him with great ceremony and led him into the palace, satisfying him with abundant food, and then said in verse: O King, please forgive me! I always revere you. Since I am your friend, Please be kind to me. He also said in verse: You have drawn the bow of forgiveness, With a single arrow that destroys anger and pride, Possessing qualities, You have completely conquered us. After that, the two of them became mutually devoted, and King Pure Giving also returned to his own country. The people of Body Excellent's country were also freed from fear. Great King, if you think that the King Body Excellent of that time and that era was someone else, you should not see it that way, for I myself was that King Body Excellent of that time and that era. Great King, if you think that by destroying the pride in my mind I will attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, you should not see it that way, but my destroying the pride in my mind is only the beginning of attaining unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, just as it was said before. Great King, furthermore, listen to the great deeds of benefiting sentient beings that I have done in order to seek unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Great King, in the past, there was a Bodhisattva, dwelling in an uncertain body, who was the leader of a sea turtle.

Thus it became. After some time, a caravan leader with five hundred attendants built a large ship and entered the great ocean. After some time, that ship was destroyed by sea monsters and fish, and they suffered improperly. Then, that turtle carried the five hundred merchants on its back and rescued them from the great ocean. Great King, do you think that the one who became the leader of the sea turtles at that time was someone else? You should not think that way. However, I myself became the leader of the sea turtles at that time. Great King, do you think that the beings I have protected have attained unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? You should not think that way. However, the beings I have protected, from the word "unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment" up to "merely the accumulation of merit," are the same as before. Great King, furthermore, listen to what I have done to benefit beings in order to seek unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Great King, in the past, in the north, the king of Luspak had five hundred ministers, among whom were two brothers named Dechen and Desang, who served as the chief ministers. Dechen always sought faults in Desang and was engaged in causing harm. Desang, on the other hand, was always engaged in helping him. The king's ministers and villagers also reconciled with Dechen for the sake of Desang, but in all circumstances, they could not stop him from causing harm. Then, the king of Luspak scolded many people and expelled them from the country. They went to Varanasi, where they were appointed as chief ministers by King Tsangsbyin. At that time, the younger brother Desang heard that his elder brother had become blind, so he requested the king and went to Varanasi. When he opened his eyes, the great crowd rejoiced in Desang, saying, "How could such a Desang use his power to make his elder brother blind? This compassionate one has opened his eyes!" Great King, do you think that the one who became the chief minister Desang at that time was someone else?" up to "However."
