Then the famine ceased and the years became good, and the householder Peacemaker satisfied a thousand solitary Buddhas there with clean and delicious food, various drinks, and tasty vegetables, and then spoke in verses: The wise and learned, with wealth, Having obtained faith and wisdom, That person always, Gives offerings to those free from desire. Those who possess magical powers and are radiant, Possessing color and possessing fame, Whoever feeds and nourishes the steadfast ones, His lineage will increase in happiness. Therefore, if one offers to the worthy ones, Who are endowed with perfect discipline, In this world and the next, One will become happy. Great King, if you think that the householder Peacemaker, who at that time did what was to be done, namely, during the twelve years of famine, offered alms to a thousand solitary Buddhas, and that his friend Indra, the lord of the gods, did that, is someone else, you should not look at it that way. However, I myself at that time was the householder Peacemaker, and I myself at that time, during the twelve years of famine, offered alms to a thousand solitary Buddhas, and my friend Indra, the lord of the gods, did this. Great King, if you think that my giving, or the distribution of giving, will attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, you should not look at it that way. However, my giving is only the cause, the condition, and the collection for unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment.
