Translated, proofread, and finalized by the translator, the monk Chos kyi shes rab. @##. In Indian language: Āryagītivṛtti (Sanskrit: आर्यगीतिवृत्ति, Romanized Sanskrit: āryagītivṛtti, Commentary on the Noble Song of Conduct). In Tibetan: Commentary on the Song of Conduct. Homage to youthful Manjushri! Homage to the body of union that possesses all perfections! With a mind to benefit others, I will distinguish the meaning of the Song of Conduct. Here, based on the power of two correct views, the Vajra Song clarifies luminosity, and the truth of cessation and the ultimate truth are mainly taught. In order to bless oneself through the Song of Conduct, the truth of the path and the conventional truth are taught. Regarding "What is the image like?" and so on, here, the object to be viewed with the eye of wisdom is twofold: non-existence and the nature of existence. Non-existence is the appearance of something on what is not, like the consciousness of someone with blurred vision. What is meant by "What is the image like?" is that there are three aspects to it: a mirror without tarnish, a face being close, and the absence of clouds obscuring the sky, and then the image appears. Similarly, from the transformations of mind and wind, and the distinctions made by ignorance, the beings of the three realms appear clearly. However, this is merely an appearance, and in reality, nothing is established. Therefore, if one examines one's own essence, one's nature is non-existent. This means that through what kind of examination can one know that it is non-existent? One should know that the essence of oneself and the three realms appears merely as an image, and one should know that it is unborn. It is taught by asking, "What is it then?" Do not be mistaken about the image, and do not fail to understand the nature of the image. Having thus briefly explained it, in order to explain the characteristics of the example and the meaning in detail, starting with "Immaculate space," and so on. Just as an image appears when immaculate space, a jewel, a clear mirror, and a face come together, similarly, due to mind, wind, karma, and ignorance, the image of oneself and the three realms appears. To be mistaken about this, thinking it is permanent and real, is like a lion dying in the ocean by overcoming its own shadow, which is foolish. It is also like an illiterate child scratching at its own shadow, which is foolish. Similarly, oneself and the three realms appear like an image.

Concerning why one is mistaken about self and others, and the instruction not to be mistaken. As stated in the sutra: 'Just as on the surface of a mirror, although it appears, it is not there; likewise is the nature of all things.' And again: 'It is not meaningful, but the nature of mind; the mind disturbed by habits, appears as meaningful.' Therefore, one should know that oneself and the objects of the three realms, as well as the consciousness that sees the other shore and all that is knowable, are like flowers in the sky. Now, considering the power of seeing the nature of existence, one should firmly cultivate the mandala wheel. This has five aspects: that dependent arising has power, that it is, knowing it, meditating on it, and the arising of blessings. Having thus dispelled the meaning of non-existence, when the two, mind and wind, are distinguished by the qualities of non-leakage, the wheel of deities, both the support and the supported, appears; that is, the mind as the proximate cause, the wind as the co-emergent condition, and the three qualities of non-leakage are combined, and the illusory body of mind and so forth appear. However, if one does not know that the nature of all non-leaking qualities is inherently the nature, then it does not exist. Therefore, one should rely on a truly virtuous spiritual friend, and through three similes and twelve doors, reveal and understand the nature of self-blessing. Furthermore, one meditates under the control of the five senses, and from this arises the blessing and the definitive understanding that all phenomena appear like illusions. Other things, such as the protection of deities, should be understood from what the noble deities have said. 'The yogi who knows that does not abide in it.' This means that although one knows it is like an illusion, just as one develops attachment to a woman created by illusion, there is still clinging, so it is purified by clear light. What is being signified is the supreme great bliss. These two sentences are easy to understand. What is the method of your examination and generation? This means refuting the yoga of examination that does not possess the characteristics of the two truths, which is easy to understand. If one does not fully know that nature, how can unsurpassed enlightenment be achieved? This refers to clear light and union. All discursive elaborations are without substance.
