Then, a god with excellent radiance, as night fell, went to where that monk was, and having gone, illuminated the entire bank of Chutala Bota, and said this to the monk: Monk, do you know the Good Night Sutra? 此地如是说。在王舍城的光明园林迦兰陀迦处，去到世尊面前禀告，世尊如何为你授记，就如那样精勤于此，说完，天神随即隐没不见。比丘，我为了世尊而完全禀告此事。世尊开示道：比丘，你认识那位天神吗？比丘禀告道：尊者，我不认识那位天神。世尊开示道：那位天子是三十三天众神的首领，名为旃檀。比丘禀告道：尊者，我也想听闻吉祥夜经。世尊开示道：比丘，因此你要好好地、完全地听，并谨记在心，我将为你解说。比丘，如果具备三种法，那么比丘就被称为安住于吉祥夜经。哪三种呢？即不追忆过去，不期待未来，以及安住于现在生起的诸法而不被夺取，具备这三种法的比丘就被称为安住于吉祥夜经。世尊如是开示后，善逝如是宣说后，导师又如是说：不追忆过去，不期待未来，过去已灭，未来尚未到来。对于现在生起的诸法，在那之上仔细观察，不被分别念所夺取，智者应如是领悟。谁知明日将死？应于今日精进。死亡的巨大军队，并非我所能知。一切有情和一切众生，一切生灵和一切，唯愿成就安乐，愿一切远离烦恼，愿一切皆见美好，愿一切不造罪恶。如是安住并精进，日夜不懈怠，因此，吉祥夜经，是导师恒常宣说的。之后，世尊为了守护一切有情，夜晚

Thus it is said here. In the Radiant Grove of King's Abode, at the place of Kalanda, go to the Blessed One and report, and as the Blessed One prophesies to you, strive diligently in this way. Having spoken thus, the deity vanished immediately. O Venerable One, I completely report this for the sake of the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: Bhikshu, do you know that deity? The Bhikshu replied: Venerable One, I do not know that deity. The Blessed One said: That son of the gods is the leader of the thirty-three gods, named Chandana. The Bhikshu replied: Venerable One, I also wish to hear the Sutra of the Auspicious Night. The Blessed One said: Bhikshu, therefore, listen well and attentively, and keep it in mind, and I will explain it to you. Bhikshu, if one possesses three qualities, then that Bhikshu is said to abide in the Sutra of the Auspicious Night. What are the three? They are: not dwelling on the past, not hoping for the future, and abiding in the present phenomena without being distracted by them. A Bhikshu who possesses these three qualities is said to abide in the Sutra of the Auspicious Night. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the Sugata spoke thus, and the Teacher further said: Do not dwell on the past, do not hope for the future, for the past is gone, and the future has not yet come. Those who contemplate the present phenomena, carefully observing each and every one, and are not distracted by discrimination, are understood by the wise. Who knows if they will die tomorrow? One should strive diligently today. The great army of death is not something I can know. May all sentient beings and all living beings, all creatures and all, attain only happiness, may all be free from afflictions, may all see goodness, may none commit evil. Abiding thus and striving diligently, without laziness day and night, therefore, the Sutra of the Auspicious Night is constantly spoken by the Teacher.
