The Classification of Stupas. The Classification of Stupas. The Classification of Stupas is complete. Homage to Lokesvaraya (Tibetan: ན་མོ་ལོ་ཀེ་ཤྭ་ར་ཡེ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नमो लोकेश्वराय, Sanskrit Romanization: Namo Lokeśvarāya, Chinese literal meaning: Homage to the Lord of the World). I pay homage to the Protector of the World! I will speak about the classification of the supports of the Dharmakaya. There are three types: like an inverted alms bowl, like a chamber, and like a victory banner. On top of a lotus and moon seat, place an inverted alms bowl stupa, symbolizing the Dharmakaya devoid of characteristics. It is called "Bumpa" or "Hundred Thousand Stupas." A square, one or two stories stacked, the Dharmakaya's qualities are all complete, symbolizing equality, called "Chamber Stupa." The stupa famous as a victory banner has eight types of Sugata Stupas. Not all necessarily have a base. Square, round lotus and moon, and crescent moon, etc., are made according to their beauty. This foundation is the ten virtues. The neck, water, and moon disc above are all the same. However, in the many-doored stupa, each of the four directions has a protruding door. The first layer of the middle steps has round lotus petals. Four or seven layers are stacked in each of the four directions. When the body was born in Lumbini, seven steps were taken. When lotuses, lotuses were born, it was built, called the Lotus Stupa. The four layers of steps are all square. At the Vajra Seat, when enlightenment occurred, the resulting Enlightenment Stupa. The four directions of the steps each have four doors, or eight, twelve, sixteen, symbolizing the Four Noble Truths, Eight Liberations, Twelve Interdependent Originations, and Sixteen Emptinesses. In Varanasi, the great turning of the Dharma Wheel occurred, the resulting Dharma Wheel Stupa, or Auspicious Many Doors, symbolizing the Dharma Door, also called the Wisdom Stupa. The four-layered steps are complete, and the four directions have four protrusions. In Shravasti, when the Tirthikas brought forth miracles, the stupa that defeated the Tirthikas, called the Great Miracle Display Stupa. The four directions of the steps have four staircases, symbolizing the descent for the benefit of sentient beings. After teaching the Dharma to the gods for three months, Brahma and Indra, etc., built stairs with gold, silver, etc., in the place where they descended in Sankasya, called the Descent from the Gods Stupa, or the Thirty-Three Gods Offering Stupa. The steps are cut into eight corners, eight faces, four layers of steps, symbolizing the benefit of sentient beings with various miracles. When the king was married, the Sangha Reconciliation Stupa, or the Maitreya Stupa, is famous. The three layers of steps are all round, completely pure.
