The Visualization Sequence of the Sukhavati Aspiration Prayer by Nagarjuna The Visualization Sequence of the Sukhavati Aspiration Prayer by Nagarjuna The Visualization Sequence of the Sukhavati Aspiration Prayer by Nagarjuna. Namo Mahasukha Kshetra Ye. (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari: नमः महासुखक्षेत्राय, Sanskrit Romanization: namaḥ mahāsukhakṣetrāya, Literal Chinese meaning: Homage, to the Great Bliss Realm.) Having gathered the essential points from the "Chapter of the Heap of Jewels Light Sutra" and the "Pure Land Arrangement Sutra," these two sutras, This Sukhavati Aspiration Prayer composed by the noble Nagarjuna is an extensive aspiration prayer. In this, there are not many objects to be meditated upon, It is very important that the mind is not distracted and is one-pointed. It is best to meditate from within the state of practicing the view, At the very least, focus on the object with one-pointed faith. If these words are somewhat difficult to understand, Clarity will come from viewing the Light Sutra and the Pure Land Arrangement Sutra. The oral instructions for the meditation sequence of this aspiration prayer are: Those with wisdom, please look at the Light Sutra and the Pure Land Arrangement. Those with little wisdom, please look at the Pure Land Thangka, Look at it again and again, and make it clear in your mind. Then, turn your face towards the west, Even though you cannot actually see with your physical eyes, At the edge of the sky in the west, In a place much higher than this world, Visualize the Sukhavati Pure Land in your mind. In the center of that, on a precious throne supported by peacocks, Above the stamens of hundreds of thousands of various lotuses, Sits the Buddha Amitabha, Leaning his back against the Bodhi tree, Imagine that his face is smiling and looking at you. To the right is the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, White, with two hands in the gesture of supreme giving, holding a white lotus. To the left is the Bodhisattva Mahasthamaprapta, The right hand in the gesture of supreme giving, the left hand on an Utpala flower, Holding a Dharma implement marked with a vajra bell. Meditate on the two attendants standing, or sitting as desired. Around that are the Bodhisattva Sangha, Billions and billions, an uncountable number. All are the same, golden in color, with topknots, Wearing the three saffron-colored Dharma robes. On this side of the narrow valley and on the other side of the mountain, See it clearly as if watching a show. The mind is not distracted, the awareness is one-pointed, Visualize the Pure Land, including the Buddha, in your mind. Meditate on the object, with faith and reverence, one-pointedly, Each time reciting about seven times, Like that, three times during the day and three times during the night, six times in total. In the breaks between sessions, do other virtuous deeds without interruption. In this way, meditate single-mindedly and without distraction for seven days, After meditating for seven days, in the dream at dawn on the seventh day,

The vision of meeting the great bliss pure land arose. After that, if one does not die from a bad combination, The sutras say that one will be born in Sukhavati. If one practices that for a few years and months, One will repeatedly meet the great bliss pure land in dreams. One will also receive Dharma from Amitabha, And it is said that it is also permissible to explain that Dharma to others. This is the unmistaken understanding of the sutra where the present Buddha Abides manifestly. First, receive the vows of generating the mind of enlightenment. If negative actions are weak and positive actions are strong, It is said that one will be born even if one recites the aspiration ten times. When those people die, at the time when their breath ceases, Or at that time when wandering in the bardo, Amitabha with his retinue, Will be seen manifestly abiding in front of oneself. From that, immeasurable joy and devotion arise in the mind, It is said that one will be born in that pure land due to that cause. Even if the strength of virtue is not great and negative obscurations are great, If one constantly keeps this in mind and practices it, Except for the five heinous crimes and those who abandon the Dharma, Negative obscurations will diminish, and without being obscured by anything else, One will be born in that pure land through the power of the Buddha's aspiration. One should not doubt whether one will be born or not, If one makes aspirations while doubting, One will be born, but the lotus will not open. Although one has happiness and hears the Buddha's voice, The vision of the Buddha's face will be delayed for five hundred years. Therefore, generate certainty without doubt. Whenever you offer prostrations and offerings, etc., Visualize that pure land in your mind and offer to it. Whenever thoughts of the five poisons of afflictions arise, From the western direction, Amitabha, Manifestly sees and generates fear, thinking that he exists. The means of protecting vows and commitments are supremely profound. All the deceased who rely and depend on oneself, Are arranged on one's right and left like a crowd. Facing west, with palms joined, One sees Sukhavati pure land manifestly. Raising a reed, one recites the aspiration for bliss together. Please hold us with compassion, venerable Avalokiteshvara. When reciting such words of supplication, From the body of Amitabha, the main figure and the three retinue members, Rays of various colors, Come forth stretched out like a rainbow silk cloth. All the deceased are enveloped and carried away by that light, And dissolve into the calyxes of the lotuses in that pure land. In that instant, they are born miraculously as emanation bodies, Golden in color, with
