It is not, (because it has been exhausted by the path of non-interruption.) Because those are the paths of liberation. The subsequent knowledge of forbearance and the eight knowledges are also not the antidote to black karma, because those are the antidote to the upper realms, not the antidote to the desire realm. (Although the worldly path of non-interruption also cuts off those, it is not explained, because it is the occasion of the uncontaminated. As long as the ninth affliction of the desire realm is not cut off, all the virtues and non-obscured unmentioned of the desire realm have desire attachment. Therefore,) The mind of the ninth path of non-interruption of the path of meditation that makes one free from desire from the desire realm is what exhausts the mixed black and white karma, (because it cuts off the object of desire, the smallest of the small afflictions, so it also cuts off the object of virtue.) Because that is the antidote to the virtue of the desire realm. The previous paths of non-interruption are not the antidote to the virtue of the desire realm. Here, it is said that the mixed black and white karma of the desire realm is cut off by the ninth path of non-interruption, but it is not cut off in the way that the nature of the karma itself is cut off, because even if it is cut off once, the virtue of the desire realm will appear again. However, it is said that it cuts off the afflictions of the object that is focused on it. As it is said in the sutra: Monks, abandon the desire and attachment to the eye, and then the eye will be abandoned. Therefore, except for the ninth path of non-interruption, the previous ones are not said to be its antidote, because "Even if the initial form is abandoned, its object of defilement remains," because there are object afflictions that are focused on the virtue of the desire realm, the smallest of the small, and so on. Black is cut off in the way that attainment is cut off, so the previous ones cut off. Similarly, exhausting white is also because its object is cut off, but not cutting off its nature, it should be understood in this way. So, what is it like to exhaust white karma? Exhausting white, the virtuous karma of the form realm, is the ninth path of non-interruption that makes one free from desire from the first, second, third, and fourth dhyanas.

The last four of the nine successive absorptions are such. Because they do not abandon the nature of virtue in the form realm, but in order to abandon the afflictions that are focused on it. According to those who explain that the virtue of the formless realm is also white karma, (དཀར་པོ་གཟུགས་མེད་ཆགས་བྲལ་བའི། བར་ཆད་མེད་ལམ་སྐྱེས་ཐ་མས་ཞེས་པར་འགྱུར་བས།, dkar po gzugs med chags bral ba'i, bar chad med lam skyes tha mas zhes par 'gyur bas., White, formless, free from attachment, uninterrupted path, arising, last, thus it changes), the last four uninterrupted paths that abandon the afflictions of the formless realm are also white exhausting karma. The worldly path is also their antidote, but because it is in terms of the uncontaminated, it is not accepted here. Other previous teachers considered that the karma that will be experienced in hell is definitely non-virtuous and the result is unpleasant, so it is black karma with black results. Karma that will be experienced in other desire realms other than hell should be known as mixed black and white karma, because in those others there are results of both virtue and non-virtue. White karma and the karma that exhausts them should be understood as before, they think. Other previous teachers considered that the karma of the desire realm to be abandoned by seeing is black karma, because it is not mixed with virtue, so it is definitely only non-virtuous. Karma arising from desire, other than that abandoned by seeing, that abandoned by meditation, is mixed black and white, because it is both virtuous and non-virtuous, they think. White karma and neither black nor white karma are no different, just the former. Third, the division into four, such as black and white.
