If it is not clear, then meanings will not be expressed. If that were the case, in the world, all expressions that represent meaning would not exist. Those who speak of the Vedas would also not exist. The teachings of the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Buddhas, would also cease to exist. Just as sentient beings in the world, although the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas, and other philosophical schools exist, they are like not knowing fire themselves. Similarly, the ways in which letters are used, although they exist in all speech, because they do not understand their own nature, how could they possibly know how to apply them to meaning? Therefore, all these subsequent statements of the Lord of Speech should be understood.
