The History of the Treatise on Sound. The History of the Treatise on Sound. The Lankavatara Sutra prophesies, "The maker of sound is Pāṇini." Also, in the Root Tantra of Manjushri, it is recorded that the history of the treatise on sound, composed by the Brahmin Pāṇini and others who were prophesied to attain enlightenment, is as follows: Initially, in the Trayastrimsa heaven, a deity named Sarvajñāna created a great treatise on sound, which the gods used, but it did not spread from the west to Jambudvipa. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, also created a treatise on sound, known as the Indra-vyākaraṇa. The sage Pūrva understood it well and taught it to the sons of the gods, so he was known as the teacher of the gods or the grammarian. When he became arrogant, thinking that there was no one more proficient in sound than him, the lord of the gods took a full vase of water from the ocean, and then took a drop of water with the tip of a kusha grass, and said to Pūrva, "In general, sound is as vast as the ocean, what I know is like a vase of water, and what you know is only this much." Pūrva was discouraged and thought of not learning sound at all. The lord advised, "In any case, learn what you know." He did not break the command and promised not to study on four auspicious days, but to study at other times. Therefore, Brahmins still say today, "On the eighth day, the teacher will surely be destroyed, on the fourteenth day, the disciple will be destroyed, on the empty sky day, wisdom will be destroyed, and on the first day, everything will be destroyed." Guarding these four auspicious days is also for this reason. That treatise also went to Jambudvipa and flourished. After that, it declined, and the Brahmin Pāṇini appeared, wanting to learn sound. He showed his palm to a palm reader, who said that he did not understand sound. He drew the lines of his palm with a sharp weapon, and then went to look for a teacher, but could not find one. After that, he practiced Mahadeva, who appeared and asked him what he wanted, and he said, "I want to be proficient in sound." Mahadeva blessed him and uttered "A A I U" at the same time, and it is said that he thus became proficient in all sounds. Buddhists explain that practicing Avalokiteśvara can also lead to proficiency in sound, which is in accordance with the scriptures. The Root Tantra of Manjushri says, "The Brahmin boy Pāṇini, will surely in the Śrāvaka Bodhi, I have made the prophecy. The great lord Ishvara, that is also the accomplishment of his mantra."

Therefore. That teacher composed a treatise on grammar containing two thousand shlokas, which became known as the Pāṇinīya-vyākaraṇa. Then, a Nāga king composed a commentary called Mahābhāṣya, containing one hundred thousand shlokas, which became very popular. Later, the queen of King Sukhabhoga, who had some knowledge of grammar, and the king was bathing and splashing water, the queen said in Sanskrit: “मा मोदक सिञ्च”(藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思:ma modo ka siñca,do not sprinkle water on me). The king immediately associated the phrase with the tone of colloquial speech and understood it as "Bring sesame seed cakes," so he sent a servant to get sesame sweets. The queen felt ashamed and thought, "Rather than being with this bull-like fellow, I'd rather die," and attempted to hang herself. The king asked her why, and she told him the story. Then, the king's uncle, named Sarvavarman, said to the king, "I have accomplished Kumāra, and I have obtained the siddhi of speech, and I will also make the king understand grammar. Please do not treat the queen like that." The king did so, and made the queen happy. Sarvavarman, through his practice, Kumāra appeared and asked what he wanted, and he said, "I want to understand grammar." So, starting from “सिद्धि वर्ण समालाय”(藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思:siddhi varṇa samālaya, accomplishment, letter, combination), he explained up to fifteen chapters. He became arrogant and said that he understood, so Kumāra drove away his mount, and the peacock's tail turned upside down, and he said, "Please forgive Kalāpa." Kalāpa is a collection of parts, entering into the peacock's feathers, hence the name. Then, he taught the king, and the king understood, and the queen was also pleased. Because the grammar was not complete, Sarvavarman and the Brahmin Supreme Desire added some more, and composed a treatise containing four hundred shlokas and twenty-four chapters. Paṇḍita Durgasimha wrote a commentary on it. Paṇḍita Kīrtiśrī wrote a commentary called "Beneficial to Students." This is the origin of the Cāndra-vyākaraṇa. Cāndra Gomin's uncle, named Dharma-dāsa, composed a commentary containing six thousand shlokas. Then, the teacher Ratnamati composed an explanation of twelve thousand shlokas. Then, Paṇḍita Pūrṇacandra composed an explanation of the explanation, containing thirty-six thousand shlokas. Then,
