How long did it take to accumulate? How long did it take to accumulate? Secondly, the time it took to accumulate is: Many different statements appear in the scriptures, such as three countless eons, seven, ten, thirty-three, and so on, and some say thirteen. Among them, three countless eons appear in most of the scriptures, and the meaning of countless is considered in many treatises such as the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha and the Ornament of the Sugata's Intent, not as countless beyond counting, but as countless when the place of numbers reaches sixty. These numbers are: one, ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand, hundred thousand, million, ten million, billion, ten billion, hundred billion, trillion, ten trillion, hundred trillion, thousand trillion, jing, ten jing, hundred jing, thousand jing, gai, ten gai, hundred gai, thousand gai, zi, ten zi, hundred zi, thousand zi, rang, ten rang, hundred rang, thousand rang, gou, ten gou, hundred gou, thousand gou, jian, ten jian, hundred jian, thousand jian, zheng, ten zheng, hundred zheng, thousand zheng, zai, ten zai, hundred zai, thousand zai, ji, ten ji, hundred ji, thousand ji, Ganges sand, ten Ganges sand, hundred Ganges sand, thousand Ganges sand, asamkhya, ten asamkhya, hundred asamkhya, thousand asamkhya, countless, with eight other numerical places omitted in between. As it says in the Bodhisattvabhumi, there are two ways of counting countless great eons: one is that in each great eon, years, months, moments, etc., are countless, so it is called countless great eons; the other is that great eons exceed the countless that can be counted, which is called countless great eons. If, according to the statement that becoming a Buddha requires many countless eons, then the first method of calculating countless eons is adopted; if it is considered that three countless eons are sufficient, then the latter method of calculating countless eons is adopted. In this way, it seems to be consistent with the statement in the sutras that great eons exceed the number of sands of the Ganges. In the commentary on the Eight Thousand Verses, it is said that three countless eons are intentional, but in the ultimate sense, it is considered to be thirty-three countless eons. As it is said: Thus, countless eons
