Is. The gods will make his body shine. Unfriendly people cannot find fault with him. He will not be separated from friendly people. His words are worthy of being adopted. He obtains fearlessness. He has more happiness. He is praised by the wise. He will remember the merit of giving the Dharma. These are the twenty benefits of loving-kindness. As it is said in the Compendium of Trainings: Giving the Dharma is free from material contamination and is the cause of increasing merit. Third, by the three vehicles, the nature is increased: becoming wise and being respected by all, and attaining enlightenment by grasping the teachings. First, in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, it says: Whoever listens with faith will obtain the joy and merit of the heavens; whoever hears of Nirvana will increase the seed of wisdom. In the commentary on "increasing the nature," it says: The wisdom arising from listening will increase the nature of attention. This is the benefit of listening, and it should not be considered the benefit of explaining. If one thinks that listening and explaining are different, that is not correct. In the Compendium of Categories, it says: Holding, reciting, and explaining should all be regarded as arising from listening. Second, in the Vinaya-vibhaṅga, it says: Extensive listening has five benefits: being skilled in the aggregates, being skilled in the elements, being skilled in the sense bases, being skilled in dependent origination, and not relying on the teachings and followers of others. In the Jataka, it says: Listening is the lamp that dispels the darkness of ignorance, the best wealth that thieves and others cannot take away, the weapon that destroys the enemy of universal delusion, and the best friend who shows the methods, paths, and instructions. And it says: It is also the best of fame, glory, and treasure. Meeting with virtuous people is the best gift. In gatherings, the wise will be happy, and for external challengers, it is like the light of the sun. And it says: It generates courage that is subdued and very clear, immediately brings great fame, makes speech fluent, and is the source of excellence. Meditating on the glory of listening will clearly understand the meaning. If one possesses listening, there will be no contradiction, and one will be able to abide well on the path of the three wheels. Following listening, taking practice as the core, one will be able to easily liberate from the fortress of samsara.

如是等等所说。 第三，关于讲说和听闻：讲说即是护持教法或佛法。如《俱舍论》所说：“护持彼者，即是演说者，唯有修行者。”如是。护持佛法的利益不可思议。如《如来秘密经》所说：“护持正法的功德，诸佛皆殷勤，于无数劫中，宣说亦难尽。”如是。《慧海请问经》中说：“如来之殊胜法，执持彼者，诸佛所摄受。天与歌者人非人，福德智慧所摄持。如来之殊胜法，执持彼者，具念具慧且聪慧。广大智慧具一切智，智者舍离习气诸烦恼。”如是等等，乃至“如来之殊胜法，执持彼者，帝释梵天及世间护法，转轮圣王及人中之王。安乐心乐菩提彼证得。”如是等等，宣说了诸多利益。

Thus and so forth was spoken. Third, regarding teaching and listening: Teaching is to uphold the doctrine or the Dharma. As stated in the Treasury of Knowledge: "The one who upholds it is the one who speaks it, and only the one who practices it." Thus it is. The benefits of upholding the Dharma are inconceivable. As stated in the Teaching of the Secret of the Thus-Gone One: "The merit of upholding the sacred Dharma, all Buddhas diligently, even if spoken of for hundreds of thousands of eons, will not come to an end." Thus it is. In the Sutra Requested by Sagacious Ocean it says: "The sacred Dharma of the Thus-Gone One, the one who upholds it, will be completely embraced by all the Victorious Ones. Gods and singers and non-human beings, will be completely embraced by merit and wisdom. The sacred Dharma of the Thus-Gone One, the one who upholds it, will be mindful, wise, and intelligent. Vast wisdom, endowed with all-knowing wisdom, the wise one abandons afflictions along with imprints." Thus and so on, up to "The sacred Dharma of the Thus-Gone One, the one who upholds it, Indra, Brahma, and likewise the protectors of the world, will become a wheel-turning monarch and a king among humans. Happiness and mental happiness, that enlightenment they will attain."
