Introducing Thatness into the Middle Way. Introducing Thatness into the Middle Way. Fourth, introducing thatness into the Middle Way is to briefly state what Manjushri himself desires in terms of his view. In "Stainless Light," it says: "Neither existent nor nonexistent, neither both existent and nonexistent, nor is it the nature of both. From freedom from extremes comes liberation; this is what the Madhyamika knows." This is the meaning. Alaya consciousness, the wisdom Mahamudra, the Great Middle Way, the Great Vehicle, the profound Prajnaparamita, the Tathagatagarbha—when thatness itself is used as a binding means, and the six-branch yoga is practiced, what manifests is the Middle Way that is free from all extremes of elaboration. That is also the pure mind that transcends the two extremes of permanence and annihilation, deep, peaceful, free from elaboration, luminous, uncompounded. In the root tantra of the Kalachakra, it says: "Transcending existence and nonexistence, non-duality, existence and nonexistence are exhausted. Emptiness and compassion are inseparable, Vajra Yoga is great bliss. Transcending the nature of subtle particles, abandoning the dharma of emptiness. Liberated from permanence and annihilation, Vajra Yoga is without lineage." This means that the Middle Way, which is free from all extremes, is Vajra Yoga, great bliss, the ultimate truth alone. All extremes and elaborations are merely conventional truth. The two extremes are: the extreme of existence and nonexistence, the extreme of things and non-things, the extreme of emptiness and non-emptiness, and the two extremes of permanence and annihilation, and so on. The four extremes are: the extreme of existence, the extreme of nonexistence, the extreme of both existence and nonexistence, and the extreme of neither. The eight extremes are: the extreme of cessation, the extreme of arising, the extreme of annihilation, the extreme of permanence, the extreme of coming, the extreme of going, the extreme of different meanings, and the extreme of one meaning. The eight worldly dharmas are also the eight extremes. In short, the wavering of the alaya consciousness, the speculation of conceptual terms, the joy and sorrow of conceptualization, the ocean of samsara, all conventional dualities are the object of faults, as well as extremes and elaborations. The ultimate truth that is free from these, the alaya consciousness, wisdom, Mahamudra, Great Vehicle, Tathagatagarbha, Great Nirvana, profound Prajnaparamita, ultimate Bodhicitta, the Dharmadhatu, the play of the four kayas and five wisdoms, are all the object of the faultless Middle Way.

It is only the faultless Madhyamaka's true end and the faultless Madhyamaka's joy, complete and perfect. From "Stainless Light": That which does not have permanence, entity, cessation, and non-entity is the Vajra Holder, the completely pure mind. This is the meaning. And: The Bhagavan, the nature of the completely pure mind, is neither existent nor non-existent, nor the nature of both existent and non-existent, nor even not both, the sole teacher of the realm. And: The noble Nagarjuna said: Not known from others, peaceful, not elaborated by elaborations, not one meaning, not different meanings, that is the nature of Suchness. And: According to the meaning, from "Stainless Light": It is neither impermanent nor permanent, not the nature of one or many, neither an entity nor a non-entity. This is the Dharmakaya free from support. And: Neither existent nor non-existent, neither existent nor non-existent, nor the nature of both, nor even not both. I prostrate to the great bliss body that is liberated from the four extremes. Similarly, from the Root Verses on the Middle Way: Whatever arises dependently, is without cessation, without arising, without annihilation, without permanence, without coming, without going, not different meaning, not one meaning, the pacification of elaboration, the peaceful one, to that supreme one, spoken of by the complete Buddhas, I prostrate. This means: The supreme or excellent Buddha among those who assert philosophical tenets, by what means does he pacify the eight elaborations to be refuted, and the basis of refutation, the elaborations, become pacified in the Dharma-dhatu Madhyamaka. Similarly, from "Stainless Light": Then the bindu, emptiness, unchanging six. This means that the Dharma which is the basis of this, the nature of the Buddha's form body, enters into all of the three realms and three times. This, the six aggregates of cessation and so forth, and the sixteen of the three realms, and the thirty-seven wisdoms of transformation, these whose nature is without obscuration are called Dharmakaya Dharmadhatu. The four vajras are the unchanging five, and the Nirmanakaya of these shows various miracles. The sound of the Dharma teacher is the Sambhogakaya. Therefore, one and many, simultaneous, equal, and unequal, and so forth, are the tenets of the Madhyamikas. Thus Gone
