The first chapter, which generally shows the introduction and instructions. The first chapter, which generally shows the introduction and instructions. I prostrate to the feet of all the precious Kagyu lineage lamas, who are the essence of all the qualities and activities of all the Tathagatas, and the kind lamas. The intention of the Buddhas of the three times, explained by the treatise writers, instructed by the holy lamas, and the Dharma that I have realized and experienced through the three ways of hearing, thinking, and meditating, I will write for the purpose of refreshing my own memory and benefiting sentient beings. In general, all sentient beings, especially those who have entered the gate of the Buddha's teachings, those who are in the stage of cause, those who have entered the path, and those who have manifested the result, how faults, obscurations, obstacles, and unfavorable conditions arise, and how to eliminate faults, purify obscurations, accomplish all favorable conditions, and manifest the result, are what the former ones have said. Although sentient beings have afflictions, obstacles, and sufferings, few of those who have fallen into the mouth of this Mongol army have escaped. The sufferings they experience are also various and diverse. We have also experienced immeasurable suffering from this side. Especially when we were defeated on the fourth day of the tenth month of the rat year, we were separated from the objects of refuge of the Three Jewels, and our retinue and possessions were also taken away. While being chased by the Mongol army and fleeing back and forth in the mountains until the tenth day, the lama, the Three Jewels, the yidam deities, and the Dharma protectors protected us and led the army away. The local deities also protected us. When we were unfamiliar with our own country and could not find a place to escape, on the tenth day, the great lay practitioner Seru Ngangye and others who had power over the five elements, although it was winter, thundered in the sky, and the sky was filled with light and rainbows. Like covering the mist and snow with a woolen cloth, they led the way to the east. There are three passes in the land of China, namely Sharwo Derel Sum. Especially in a place called Zungchung, the local deity, the great lay practitioner Seru Ngangye, gathered and stayed in that place, which is a manifestation of past karma.

When the fruition ripens, everyone hates and experiences various sufferings. There is no uncle, official, king, or servant; no one can offer help. If non-humans do not protect, people hate and suffer various harms, others slander and abuse, commit killings, robberies, and plunder. Diseases, famine, and disharmony occur simultaneously. Walking is not allowed, staying is not allowed. During the time of suffering for four months, and again during the time of experiencing such suffering, one thinks: What is the cause? What are the conditions? Where does this feeling of experiencing something like a ripening fruition come from? The Buddhas, the perfectly complete enlightened ones, spoke of cause and effect, and the Dharma spoken by the precious lamas and the past kings has three ways of understanding: the way in which beings create causes and experience results; although no cause was created before, it arises due to the aggregation of temporary conditions; and the great vehicle, the secret mantra yogis, through practice, operate the channels and winds, thereby causing the appearance of experiences to arise in the mind. This again has two aspects: the way appearances arise through practicing the path of skillful means; and because of the arising of the realization of the wisdom mahamudra, in which mind and wisdom are non-dual, all the ripened results of all the karma accumulated from beginningless time are quickly awakened, thereby causing various disharmonies to arise. At this time, a genuine great meditator is needed. Having experienced the suffering that has arisen within, then with wisdom, understand from what causes and conditions the experienced suffering arose. Then, meditate on the key points that are in accordance with the cause of the nature of the suffering that has arisen, so that the suffering is not seen as something to be abandoned, but is transformed into the path itself. Also, understand everything else, what cause created it, what conditions produced it, and what is the cause of oneself and one's retinue also experiencing such suffering. Through the four powers, confess sins and non-virtuous actions. Universally, generate compassion for the suffering experienced by sentient beings. Thinking, what does one's own suffering amount to, thinking of the suffering of those beings born in the three lower realms.
