that is, the unwholesome with the unwholesome. And there, the distribution should be understood by way of nutriment and faculty. In the thirteen-root, etc., everywhere, in the place where "one" occurs, this same should be taken. But in nutriment, the distribution should be understood by way of faculty. In faculty, by way of nutriment. In the fourteen-root, etc., because of combination with karma, "without existence" and "not departed" are not obtainable, thus not said. Not nutriment condition, not absorption condition, that is, said excluding faculty. Therefore, there, one should be understood by way of faculty. Not result condition, not faculty condition, that is, said excluding nutriment, therefore, there, one should be understood by way of nutriment. But in these two, when standing in the negative, there is no such thing as calculation, therefore, it is not shown from one side. Not-root-of-cause. 534. Also, in the not-root-of-object, etc., fifteen, thirteen, eleven, nine, in all pairs, these are the four divisions of the root calculation. But in the triplets, etc., in the combination of many conditions, the other seven, five, three, two, one, these definite calculations and distributions are indeed obtainable. In these, in the combination of which conditions what is obtainable, that was said below. It should be carefully considered and extracted by the son. In all these sets, regarding roots such as "not-object-root," the terms "not-object," etc., are first combined with the preceding "not-cause" term before the wheels are made. However, because these are just like those stated in the "not-cause-root," they are shown concisely without being extensively displayed. There, just as in the "not-cause-root," although "not-object-not-support" are obtained fifteen times separately, they are obtained thirteen times in combination, so everywhere, only thirteen are obtained. And just as with "not-object-not-co-arisen," there are seven instances with "not-support," so with "not-support-not-object," there are also seven with "not-co-arisen." 538. Not-condition-relation, not-support-relation, not-post-nascence are three: wholesome, etc., up to indeterminate. Among these, resultant materiality and nutriment-originated materiality are condition-produced. 543-544. In the tetrads of not-nutriment, not-faculty-root, because they do not combine with not-kamma, they are obtained in one way, as in the not-cause-root. In the not-faculty-root, excluding not-support and not-pre-nascence, three should be done in not-nutriment, meaning that these two relations should be combined from the not-faculty-relation...pe... not-support-relation, three in not-nutriment. Not-faculty-relation...pe... not-pre-nascence-relation, three in not-nutriment, thus, the calculation should be done with the not-nutriment-relation along with these relations, that is the meaning. There, "three" refers to wholesome, etc., of the indeterminate. There, wholesome and unwholesome are for resultant materialities and the pre-nascence body by the post-nascence-relation, but indeterminate mind and mental factors are only by the post-nascence-relation, thus, three answers should be given based on these. But later, because it combines with not-post-nascence, it is said "two in not-nutriment." There, only this much is obtained: wholesome for the indeterminate in terms of resultant materiality, and likewise unwholesome. But because nutriment is rejected, edible nutriment does not obtain the state of being a condition even in terms of presence and absence. 545. For the tetrad of not-dissociation-root... With no root and no condition, five: wholesome for co-arisen wholesome, wholesome for resultant-rupa, unwholesome, unwholesome for co-arisen unwholesome, likewise for resultant-rupa, unwholesome, unwholesome for co-arisen unwholesome, thus five. Without the non-associated condition... ...without condition, three: as stated below, the three wholesome, etc., for the unwholesome. 546. By way of no-presence condition, no-root, nine: by way of no-root condition, no-presence, the nine stated above. For all of these are obtained through the root, the end, contiguity, predominance, and condition. "Without object, nine," these same should be placed as "without object," and "without condition," two should be done. Up to the support condition: in the no-presence root method, "by way of no-presence condition, no-root condition, no-object condition," thus, by way of the wheel-bond method, having placed it in the no-object condition, with these three, or with any one of the others in the subsequent no-dominance, etc., up to the support condition, having gone thus far, two releases should be done, is the meaning. Having established the characteristic thus, again, starting from no-object, having taken the seven conditions up to the support, he says, "without condition, two." Therein, "by way of no-presence condition, no-root condition, no-object condition, without condition, two," "by way of no-presence condition, no-root, no-object, no-dominance condition, without condition, two," thus, from no-object, connection should be made with all the terms ending in the preceding and subsequent support. Here, in "two," "wholesome for unwholesome, unwholesome for unwholesome," should be understood as the condition for resultant-rupa by way of different-moment karma. Everywhere in no-precedence, etc., with the term "without condition," two. Here, the karma condition is not included. For if that were included, those two turns would be cut off, and a release would not be obtained. Thus, with whatever, in the connection of whatever, whatever is obtained, and whatever is lost, having carefully considered all that, the calculation should be extracted in all the opposites. Opposites. Description of Enumeration. Description of the Inverse Order 550. In the direct order, it is said, "By way of root-condition, seven; by way of object-condition, nine." In the inverse order, it is said, "By way of non-root-condition, fifteen; by way of non-object-condition, fifteen." Among the conditions obtained in these enumerations, the enumeration should be understood in terms of those conditions that are similar in the inverse order to the instances obtained in the direct order. For in the direct order, by way of root-condition, seven instances are obtained, as it is said, "By way of root-condition, seven." In the inverse order, by way of non-object-condition, fifteen instances are obtained, as it is said, "By way of non-object-condition, fifteen." Among those seven instances stated by way of root-condition, the following seven are similar among the fifteen instances stated by way of non-object-condition: "Wholesome is condition for wholesome, for indeterminate, for wholesome-indeterminate; unwholesome is condition for unwholesome, for indeterminate, for unwholesome-indeterminate; indeterminate is condition for indeterminate." Referring to these, it is said that root-condition is seven in non-object-condition. The same method applies to the cases of non-adhipati-condition, etc. However, since there is no root-condition for non-co-nascence, not even one is obtained in non-co-nascence. Therefore, no combination is made with it. In non-reciprocity, the three wholesome, etc., are obtained for indeterminate-rupa, referring to which it is said to be three. The same applies to non-association. In non-dissociation, however, three should be understood in terms of immaterial phenomena: wholesome is condition for wholesome, unwholesome for unwholesome, indeterminate for indeterminate. Non-dependence, non-presence, and non-disappearance are not obtained like non-co-nascence, so no combination is made with them either. Thus, here there are only two enumeration divisions: seven and three. Based on these, the enumeration should be understood by reducing the enumeration of excess along with the enumeration of deficiency in the combination of conditions. 551. Here, "root, co-nascence, dependence, presence, and disappearance are seven in non-object-condition" means that a wholesome phenomenon is condition for a wholesome phenomenon by way of root-condition, by way of co-nascence-condition, by way of dependence-condition, by way of presence-condition, by way of disappearance-condition, and by way of non-object-condition. Wholesome roots for associated phenomena. Condition by way of root-cause, Condition by way of co-nascence, dependence, presence, and non-departure, Condition not by way of object: in this manner, seven turns should be extracted. The same method applies to cases beginning with "Not by way of dominance," etc. In the second grouping, because of the inclusion of reciprocity, except for non-association, three are stated in the remaining cases. However, in non-association, with reference to mutually dissociated rebirth-name-and-form, one is stated. Here, the condition of reciprocity is not obtained from the counter-condition, because of its inclusion in the direct-order grouping; therefore, "not reciprocity" is not stated. Just as here, so also in the remaining groupings, conditions that are included are not obtained from the counter-condition, and therefore are not stated. In the third grouping, because of the inclusion of association, everywhere there are only three. In the fourth grouping, because of the inclusion of dissociation, three wholesome states, etc., are for mind-produced materiality. In the fifth, because of the inclusion of result, everywhere there is one: indeterminate with indeterminate. In cases beyond this also, in result-associated cases, this same method applies. 552. Root-cause, co-nascence, dependence, faculty, path, presence, and non-departure: not by way of object, four: wholesome for wholesome, for indeterminate, for wholesome-indeterminate; indeterminate for indeterminate: these should be understood in terms of these. The same method applies to the remaining cases.
