English
For the result, having made the deed its object, is indeed a wholesome object for one who has taken rebirth; however, it is not shown here because it is difficult to discern. "Enjoys the wholesome," etc., is said to show the wholesome-object result at the end of unwholesome impulsions. "And the result of the sense-sphere," this, though equally difficult to discern, is said because the result of the exalted is obtained by way of its occurrence as the object then. "Of the functional," that is, having attained arahantship, by functional absorption in the sphere of nothingness, which was not previously attained, in reverse order or with an intervening one. "Of the knowledge of others' minds," etc., should be connected with adverting later on. The meaning here is: that adverting of theirs, its wholesome aggregates are a condition by way of object-condition. 407-409. "Lust," lust of oneself or another. Here, the description is evident in terms of lust of oneself. "Enjoys," etc., has the same meaning as stated before. But in the case of doubt, etc., since there is no enjoying to be done in the three, "enjoys" is not said. Here, view arises, but it is not mentioned first in the order of arrival because it is deficient in the meaning of "enjoys." In the case of doubt, etc., first stating that which is similar to each, it is stated immediately after each. And in these cases of lust, etc., the arising of displeasure should be understood in terms of intolerance, saying, "Are evil states arising in me?", or in terms of remorse, saying, "Evil done, greedy done." 410. "The eye is impermanent," that is, the eleven forms, namely, the gross sense-bases and the object-form, are taken because they are evident in the order of insight. Again, the form-base, etc., are taken because they are objects of eye-consciousness, etc. But since this is a teaching in terms of aggregates of consciousness, not in terms of elements, the mind-element is not taken. Thus, the taken and not-taken should be understood everywhere. 411. "Reviews the fruit," that is, it is said to show the object of the reviewing wholesome, reviewing nibbana. 413-416. In the designation of object-dominance, to trainees and ordinary people, The four-plane wholesome consciousness was shown, as well as in the designation of co-arising dominance. Since the arahant has attained the supreme Dhamma, there is no reverence among worldly wholesome states, therefore only the supreme path was shown. 417. In the immediately proximate condition, "the preceding preceding" means wholesome states of one plane or different planes are spoken of together. "Conformity to the lineage-breaker," "conformity to the purification" is according to the difference of objects. "The lineage-breaker to the path," "the purification to the path" is according to the difference of planes. But here, in "wholesome to arising," "wholesome" means wholesome consciousness of three planes. "Arising" means fruition of three planes. They arise from the wholesome javana process, therefore it is called "arising." That is twofold - the registering and the life-continuum. There, for wholesome consciousness of the sense-sphere, both are arising, but for the exalted, only the life-continuum. "The path to fruition" - since this is supramundane fruition, included in the javana process, it is not called "arising," therefore it is stated separately. "Conformity to the trainee" - wholesome consciousness does not immediately follow the non-trainee, therefore it makes a distinction. "Fruition attainment" - also by fruition attainment of stream-entry fruition, once-returning fruition, non-returning fruition. "Fruition attainment" - by fruition attainment of non-returning fruition. In unwholesome states, both kinds of arising are obtained. In result-indeterminate, action-indeterminate, result-indeterminate is to be understood only for result-indeterminate, action-indeterminate only for action-indeterminate. "Life-continuum to advertence" etc. is stated in a mixed manner. There, "action" means action consciousness of the sense-sphere. That is the immediately proximate condition for both kinds of arising, but for the exalted, only for the life-continuum. Thus, in the lower designation of conditional analysis, "preceding preceding wholesome states are a condition by way of immediately proximate condition for subsequent subsequent wholesome states," having begun thus, seven turns were shown: wholesome to wholesome, wholesome to indeterminate, unwholesome to unwholesome, unwholesome to indeterminate, indeterminate to indeterminate, indeterminate to wholesome, indeterminate to unwholesome; the meaning of those Here, in brief, the contiguity condition has been distinguished. But in detail here – In ten ways, in seventeen ways, and with the summary method; And in many ways also, the designation, one should carefully note. For this contiguity condition obtains designation not only in seven ways, but wholesome for wholesome, for result; unwholesome for unwholesome, for result; result for result, for action; action for wholesome, unwholesome, result, action, thus it obtains designation in ten ways. Not only in ten ways, but wholesome for wholesome, for wholesome result, for unwholesome result; unwholesome for unwholesome, for unwholesome result, for wholesome result; wholesome result for wholesome result, for unwholesome result, for action; unwholesome result for unwholesome result, for wholesome result, for action; action for action, for wholesome, unwholesome, wholesome result, unwholesome result, thus it obtains designation in seventeen ways. And not only in seventeen ways, but it also obtains designation by the summary method. How? Wholesome of the sense-sphere, by difference of plane, is the contiguity condition for wholesome of four kinds, wholesome of the form-sphere and formless-sphere for its own plane only, thus wholesome for wholesome is the contiguity condition in six ways. But wholesome of the sense-sphere for wholesome result of the sense-sphere, for unwholesome result, for result of the form-sphere, for result of the formless-sphere, for supramundane result; wholesome of the form-sphere for result of the form-sphere, for wholesome result of the sense-sphere; wholesome of the formless-sphere for wholesome result of the sense-sphere, for result of the form-sphere, formless-sphere, supramundane; supramundane wholesome for supramundane result, thus wholesome for result is the contiguity condition in twelve ways. Unwholesome for unwholesome, for unwholesome result, for wholesome result of the three planes, thus it is the contiguity condition in five ways. Wholesome result of the sense-sphere for wholesome result of the sense-sphere, for unwholesome result, for result of the form-sphere, for result of the formless-sphere, thus wholesome of the sense-sphere. Resultant with result, is antecedent condition in four ways. Form-sphere resultant with three-sphere wholesome result, is antecedent condition in three ways. Formless-sphere resultant with formless-sphere resultant, and sense-sphere wholesome result, is antecedent condition in two ways. Supramundane resultant with four-sphere wholesome result, is antecedent condition in four ways. Thus, wholesome result with result, is antecedent condition in thirteen ways. Unwholesome result with unwholesome result, and sense-sphere wholesome result, is antecedent condition in two ways. Thus, in every way, result with result, is antecedent condition in fifteen ways. Sense-sphere wholesome result, however, with sense-sphere functional, and likewise unwholesome result, and likewise form-sphere result, and likewise formless-sphere result, result with functional, is antecedent condition in four ways. Sense-sphere functional with three-sphere functional, form-sphere and formless-sphere functional with form-sphere and formless-sphere alone, functional with functional, is antecedent condition in five ways. Sense-sphere functional with unwholesome result, and four-sphere wholesome result, form-sphere functional with sense-sphere wholesome result and form-sphere result, formless-sphere functional with four-sphere wholesome result also, functional with result, is antecedent condition in eleven ways. Sense-sphere functional, however, with sense-sphere wholesome and unwholesome, with wholesome and unwholesome, it is antecedent condition in two ways. Thus, a summary of sixty-six ways can be obtained. Not only in a summary of sixty-six ways, but in many ways it can be obtained. How? A sense-sphere first great wholesome consciousness, with itself, and with four form-sphere wholesome, with sixteen glad supramundane by way of foundation, and with twenty-one wholesome, of the eleven sense-sphere results arising at the end of the impulsion, by way of tadārammaṇa and life-continuum, of the form-sphere and formless-sphere results proceeding by way of life-continuum, of the fruition attainments proceeding The first wholesome thought, is the immediately preceding condition for twenty-one wholesome thoughts, including the twelve supramundane resultant thoughts; and for thirty-two resultant thoughts, thus for fifty-three thoughts. Likewise, the second wholesome thought. But, setting aside the third and fourth, the higher plane wholesome thoughts, and the supramundane resultant thoughts, are for the remaining twenty-one thoughts. The fifth and sixth, are for themselves, for the nine higher plane equanimity wholesome thoughts, and for twenty-three resultant thoughts, thus for thirty-three. The seventh and eighth, are for twenty-one only. The five fine-material wholesome thoughts, are for their respective subsequent fine-material wholesome thoughts, for the four knowledge-associated great resultant thoughts, and for the five fine-material resultant thoughts, thus for ten. And in the same way, in the immaterial wholesome thoughts, the first, together with its result, is for eleven,
